Dwarf Fortress hit nearly half a million sales in December 2022

By - | Views: 26,473

Dwarf Fortress from developer Bay 12 Games and publisher Kitfox Games finally had the Steam release in December 2022, and it seems like it went very well. It's currently sat with an Overwhelmingly Positive user rating from over 15,000 Steam user reviews.

On their official forum where they give out monthly statements, they confirmed in the January Report that "the game sold almost half a million copies in December, which is awesome" although they won't have all the specific on it until "mid-February" when all the processing is done.

They do plan to provide a Native Linux version at some point, although it works just fine with Proton right now. They also announced recently that they've hired a second programmer, which is a "historic moment" for the game for someone else to see the code and they're bringing in a long-time member of the DF community for this. In their January Report, they mentioned the newcomer will help towards "bug fixes, ports, and more".

You can buy it on Steam.

This is amazing. I am super stoked for Tarn as this is more than well deserved. And a huge kudos to the community for buying the Steam release up like mad!

Phew! I just squeaked in there buying it on the 31st!

I found out recently I'm actually among the fairly early players; I found it sometime between 2008–2010 (and was obsessed off-and-on for years), and recently found out it first came out in 2006. I came to it soon after the switch from 2D to 3D, and with how much stuff there already was in the game I just assumed (as a kid at the time) that it must've been out in development for a decade or so already.

500k, and that's without a native Linux version :P

/just kidding, I'm not expecting it to affect sales a lot.

In other news, they also added a classic mode.

I like this one too, but it deserves a more metal version :)
