By - | Views: 23,114

Kubuntu Focus have announced their next laptop with the XE Gen 2, here's the details on what's new and improved. The 14 inch laptop sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

It ships with Kubuntu and Plasma 5.24 LTS out of the box. With an Intel 12th Gen i7-1260P or i5-1240P. You can spec it up to 64GB RAM (8GB 3200Mhz base model), up to 2TB Samsung SSD either a 3500 MB/s model or a 7450 MB/s model. Featuring a 14 inch 1920x1080 IPS screen and Intel IRIS Xe graphics. They claim it gives a "real world" 8 hour battery life. You also get WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, HDMI 1.4, USB-A 3.2, USB-C 3.2, Thunderbolt 4, a 6-in-1 card reader, another USB-A 3.2 and gigabit Ethernet.

With a large centred touchpad and LED back-lit keys, overall it seems quite nice.

From the press release:

“We started the Kubuntu Focus Project over 3 years ago with a focus on adding value to an already great Kubuntu distribution and community. Instead of reinventing wheels, we created new tools and optimizations so everyone can have a great out-of-the-box experience and save time and hassle every day. Many of these solutions have already been upstreamed, and many more are on the way. Our team has also rigorously tested, reported, and helped fix bugs with KDE, Kubuntu, and Ubuntu. This collaboration benefits our customers and the entire community, and we thank all the wonderful people on these teams that make it all possible," stated Michael Mikowski, General Manager.

See more on the Kubuntu Focus website. Available starting at $895 shipping to US and Canada is free as standard but they will ship worldwide if you contact them first to arrange it.
