For those readers who love the recent wave of retro-horror, Delta Kayak could be another good one to check out with a demo now live. Certainly wins points for some originality and total weirdness here.

A mixture of horror and exploration wrapped up in a retro style. Here you were attacked by a strange being, and your pet vanishes without a trace. Your search ends up leading you to discover the twisted origin of the creature and its creator. You must rescue your pet, Pepa, and return home safe and sound.

The game takes place in a real place, the delta of the Paraná River, Argentina. A labyrinth of rivers and streams with lush vegetation and a culture of community with nature.

The demo, lasting between 10 and 15 minutes, shows the beginning of the game, when the character goes out at night in his kayak to run an errand and encounters a half-boat, half-animal creature that constantly stalks him.

Created by Eibriel, who worked in film and television before venturing into video games and uses mainly free and open source tools, such as Godot and Blender. It has Native Linux support and the developer said it will also work on Steam Deck.

Check it out on the Steam page and try the demo. The developer plans to launch it before the end of 2024.

Spielberg's "Duel"... With boats!

Reminds me of Iron Lung by the creator of Dusk. This one seems like more of a retro and hands-on experience, whether Iron Lung is more like experimental and short indie dread simulator. Both are water based. Well, Iron Lung's version of water is the "ocean of blood", but let's not get technical here. There's also Soma. Hope this one will also deliver.

The demo's also on Itch. Here's hoping the full game comes to the platform.
