GPD are being weird again - making a claim that the GPD WIN 5 is getting an "official" adaptation with Bazzite Linux but the Bazzite team say otherwise.

We knew GPD wanted this to happen, since they are already highlighting support for Bazzite on their expensive handheld as noted in a previous GamingOnLinux article from September 2025. However, we didn't know how exactly this was going to be happening, and we're all still a bit confused on it.

On Reddit, a GPD rep made a post titled "The official Adaptation of GPD Win5 is happening" with the main text noting "The official Adaptation of GPD Win5 is happening, if your got any issue on Bazzite, please join our discord to consult with Bazzite representer".

However, Kyle Gospodnetich, the founder of Bazzite, didn't mince words with their reply in the Bazzite Discord:

Nope GPD lied to you sorry We don't officially work with anyone, we make hardware work and that's it. I have no recent contact from them.

Nope
GPD lied to you sorry
We don't officially work with anyone, we make hardware work and that's it. I have no recent contact from them.

Oh dear.

It's not the first time GPD have been caught-out, and likely won't be the last. They're an odd company. Like how they blocked GamingOnLinux on Twitter/X back in 2022 for pointing out they were poaching YouTube videos without credit from various creators.

Maybe by "official" they mean "officially supported by GPD"?

The page of the device states the following:

The advantages of Bazzite Desktop Edition include: being developed by technical experts from renowned companies such as Microsoft, Ubuntu, Intel, Amazon, and Red Hat. It supports not only AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards but also Intel ARC+. With its Cloud Native architecture, even if updates cause software package corruption, users can roll back to any Bazzite version released within the past 90 days.

After that, the website presents a screenshot (not HTML) of Bazzite Linux distribution contributors, though the first expression it raised is that these contributors are of this device and not the distribution ^^"

Sounds like: "Let's flood Bazzite with issues about GPD Win5 so they solve them for us"
