Am I in love? I think I am. D.O.R.F. Real-Time Strategic Conflict is an upcoming retro-infused RTS game that looks absolutely incredible. First covered on GamingOnLinux by yours truly all the way back in 2023, I've been waiting what feels like a lifetime for more information on this one.

What actually is it?

D.O.R.F. is a real-time strategy game and basebuilder, set in a wild post-apocalyptic far future.

D.O.R.F. aims to not merely be a throwback to classic 90's RTS titles in terms of its style and presentation, but to also expand on the genre with rare or otherwise entirely new mechanics and systems, from constructing resource logistics operations to seeing terrain warped and destroyed from weaponry and construction.

You play as a commander of one of the three major powers of the war-torn earth: the oppressive and authoritarian Union Of Imperial States, the high-tech, spacebound forces of The Collective, or the unyielding wasteland fighters of the Warbands.

Harvest the remains of a dead civilization to build up your base of power, assemble armies of mutants and metal, and crush your foes.

They're a lot closer to the finishing line now, with a Kickstarter funding campaign launched and as expected it's doing very well with over $130,000 in funding. They've confirmed full Linux support and the release will be on GOG and Steam.

Check out the trailer below and see how awesome it looks:

What an incredible trailer. This looks like an insane mixture of Tiberian Sun, Red Alert with a little KKnD in there too. Everything an RTS game fan could want in one neat looking package. I'm definitely signed up to be first in line for this one. Gimme.

Game Highlights:

  • Elaborately detailed isometric sprites that harken back to the classic days of PC real-time strategy, while making use of modern rendering techniques and resolution.

  • Base construction and resource harvesting, but with a modern twist; resources must get from the refineries to the factories, rewarding players with efficient base layouts.

  • Pump oil from deposits, mine ore beneath the surface, and gather scrap and debris left over from previous battles to fuel your war machine.

  • Three unique factions: play as the brutalist battle-hardened Empire, the junkyard jalopy war machines of the Warbands, or the technologically sophisticated and mysterious N.W.O.

  • A massive arsenal at your disposal: from psychic rogues to multi-turret landships, self-cloaking tanks and giant crushing junk spheres of death, every faction offers their own arsenal of powerful and strange units.

  • Explore and conquer a twisted vision of Earth’s future, corrupted by genetic experiments, endless warfare and extraterrestrial anomalies.

  • Have your troops engage in brutal close-quarters fighting by storming enemy fortifications and facilities; capture your enemies factories and use their own technologies against them.

  • D.O.R.F. will feature an elaborate campaign for each of the game’s three factions, as well as multiplayer with up to 8 players per-match.
