Mow down hordes of zombies in a customizable hovercraft in SCAD, a fresh Early Access post‑apocalyptic roguelite bullet heaven. Note: a key was sent to GamingOnLinux.

This one does quite a lot different to other similar games in the bullet heaven sort-of genre (think like Vampire Survivors), bringing it a bit closer to classic twin-stick shooters with a roguelite feel to it. In a way, it's a bit closer to the likes of the excellent TerraTech Legion but with a very different style and gameplay feel here though that really sets it apart.

SCAD (Salvage, Craft and Destroy) is all about building up your hovercraft as you go through a run. You pick your craft, customize the load-out with different turrets and crew to automate them, then away you go. You pick a region, and then fight through different nodes on a map that all have different objectives. Sometimes you might by defending a building, others surviving for a certain length of time or taking out a specific number of enemies and more.

Each time you level up you pick a random power card from a selection that can include special weapons like spinning blades attached to the front, a floating extra turret, or completely silly things like a musical robot that attracts the hordes to it and then blows them up. There's certainly a good amount of variety here.

It's just a little rough around the edges, and it's missing lots of settings to change (not even a resolution option!), but what they have so far is still thoroughly good fun to play through. Squishing hundreds of zombies looks and feels great, especially with all the different types of enemies that have different attack patterns you have to work around.

Works well on Linux with Proton 11.

For £7.15 it's totally worth it. And it's 20% off until June 11th.
