As usual thanks to SteamDB it looks like Arma 3 could be heading to Linux. Arma 3 is a massive military sandbox from Bohemia Interactive and I am sure it will excite a lot of people.

This is by no means confirmed, remember content from SteamDB can always be an accident, or simple internal tests, but it's still exciting. I have personally emailed Bohemia Interactive for comments, and I will be sure to update you if they say anything to us.

On the SteamDB history for Arma 3 is this:

Quoting: Avehicle7887That VP suggests a possible Virtual Programming eON port, this is getting interesting. I wonder how performance will fare with such a game in multiplayer.
i hope its not. the performance in bioshock was terrible compared to windows. i refuse such "ports"!

Really amazing but the "VP" is arlarming to me. Is it Aspyr's secret project?

I am anxious and terrified at the same time. Operation Flashpoint/Arma series are part of my favorite games. Eon wrapper is much improved but still not all the good that should.

It would surprise me, I believe DayZ is much more popular, it would make more sense to test the water with it (?)

Quoting: EKRboiLinux needs a good multiplayer FPS like this. I would prefer battlefield myself, but Arma would work too.

Dice has stated several times that they want to port there games to Linux.
I can be mistaken, but I think they also where behinde Vulken, with meny other developers.

Im sure we will get more great fps just like arma, and BF are one of them
Hopefully dayz will come after, there road map is solad and they put out updates fast now adays.

Operation Flashpoint (original) was the game which ruined all other games for me. It was, in it's time, incredibly realistic and original, more accurately described as a first person military simulator than a first person shooter. One shot from a sniper a mile away could kill you, if you encountered an armoured vehicle as infantry you ran away and just as in real life if you wanted to survive you kept your head down. It was all about tactics, using the terrain to your advantage and patience. It was so good that Bohemia spun out a side business of military training contracts from it.

Since I switched to linux before the release I never got to play the official sequel - Armed Assault (Arma), and that was one of my great regrets. I would love to see Arma 3 come to linux, although I'm told that Arma 2 was better, I hope this is true but I'm not going to count on it.

Battlefield will never happen, Until EA has origin in*nix + that stupid browser plugin it ain't gonna happen. Short of these steam boxes with steamOS doing exceptionally well that is

COD is more of a possibility with it been a steam game but I have my doubts about that too tbh

what? the performance is amazing for a wrapper. Im getting smoother gameplay and more consistent ( and more beautiful ) than most native ports ! It "might" be 10-15fps less than windows that’s all. I don't have high end hardware, strictly a midrange desktop ( 760gtx) and it plays amazing, even with a standard mechanical disc, and an oldish mid range amd cpu

high settings 60fps in most parts at 1080p, looks fantastic probably better than most any other opengl game I have ( ironically )

at this point Eon is so good that im not bothered if older pre 2014 titles are ported using a wrapper. It gets the games over and as people have more and more GPU power to spare the 10 - 15fps difference isn’t noticeable on all but the most extreme 4k setups where every fps counts

I don't mind wrapped games as long as they have a decent enough performance, but of course I would be much happier if they are working on a native version... A native version is more than a port, it's like a commitment, and means that the company may have long-term plans for supporting Linux. Wraps are more short-term, or rather "tests" to see how well they sell the game to the penguins.

I can't still believe it. I follow linux game ports since unreal tournament 2004 was ported. This is the best linux gaming news since valve announced steam would come to linux. if Arma will be ported to linux, all can be ported. I think it is the hardest game because of its complex game engine. Oh I wish it was true...
