Already a bit older but impressing:

The OpenGL-Stack seems to create more stable framerates under Linux in comparison to Windows 10 . At least for X-Plane 11 this seems to be the case.

Does anyone have experience with X-Plane 11 under Linux?

X-Plane 11 is an impressive piece of software engineering in and of itself and a terrific flight simulator. Right now the developers are going through the entire code base a chunk at a time to improve performance and remove any instances of stuttering. Their ultimate goal is a locked 60 frames per second. Vulkan is just one piece of the puzzle.

They've had a pretty disappointing attitude towards Mesa in the past:
http://www.x-plane.com/kb/x-plane-11-system-requirements/ which is a pity. If that changes with Vulkan I wouldn't mind spending some time and money on X-Plane.

As I understand it, it's due to support for compatibility profiles. This is a legacy thing required by the add on infrastructure and the reason why X-Plane will never change to core profiles. So if Mesa won't properly support compatiblity profiles, then it won't work until the switch to Vulkan is complete.
