Oh damn, now I'm going to have to drive the Manta in Sweden again...

I could take the Lancia S4, but for some reason I have trouble getting it over the finish line in one piece. And then there's the fact that the Opel is just stupidly fun. I won't do very well I think, but at least I'll enjoy failing. :)

Accepted. Welcome to the League!

Thanks, I already made my times in the first 3 tracks.

Holy crap, this was lot of fun. Opted to Manta also :) It behaves really like my real life icetrack car, just with a lot more power. Had serious fun with and and mostly it was clean racing, except i could have gone faster in many places but didnt feel the car quite yet.

Don't think the times are competitive against the 4WD though, but lets wait and see.

Summary:

S1: clean
S2: clean
S3: spin
S4: clean
S5: clean
S6: clean
S7: clean

I don't think I've ever done a clean run on any Swedish stage, in any car...

What kind of setup did you use? Just curious.

pretty much default, dampers 2 clicks to the firm side only

Chose the Manta aswell to keep the competition interesting, as the 4wd cars a way too fast. Shouldn't really have both against each other. I dunno if they were closer in real life or not. But It's like 1970's vs 2010.

I pushed as hard as I dared, but in the end Xpander came out 40ish seconds ahead. I noticed a few places I could go faster, but no hope of matching those times without risking crashing. :)

...
Although the Audi Quattro was still in essence a Group 4 car, it carried Hannu Mikkola to the driver's title in 1983. Lancia had designed a new car to Group B specifications, but the Lancia 037 still had rear wheel drive and was thus less consistent than the Audi over different surfaces (generally the Lancia had the upper hand on tarmac, with the Audi remaining superior on looser surfaces such as snow and gravel). Nevertheless, the 037 performed well enough for Lancia to capture the manufacturers title with a rally to spare, which was generally considered more prestigious at the time. In fact, so low was Lancia's regard for the Drivers Championship, they did not enter a single car into the season finale RAC Rally, despite the fact that driver Walter Röhrl was still in the hunt for the title.

Russell Brookes' Opel Manta 400.
The low homologation requirements quickly attracted manufacturers to Group B. Opel replaced their production-derived Ascona with the Group B Manta 400, and Toyota built a new car based on their Celica. Like the Lancia 037 both cars were rear wheel drive, but, while successful in national rallying in various countries, they were less so at World Championship level, although Toyota won the 1983 Ivory Coast Rally after hiring Swedish desert driving specialist, the late Björn Waldegård.

So RWD ones were competing against 4WD ones, but weren't that good on loose surfaces. And yeah they also had less HP, that was a bit before the HP race started.
Skully 27 Oct 2017
Nice info, thank you. I did realize they really did compete against each other. What I meant is I am not sure if the RWD were really this bad against the 4WD. Because at least in this game it can be as big as 10-20sec per stage. Making the Mantra compete with a RWD car from the 1960's for times.

A good example of this is https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=462311586
Scroll to the "overall leader board" Although the results are from one guy. This guy is amazing at that track. He has video footage on youtube for every car on that track getting the times he states.

yeah, i did a testrun before i chose manta. i drove älgsjon stage with lancia s4 and with opel manta. with lancia i got something like 3:39 and with manta 3:48. And i think i did more small mistakes with Lancia.

Should have done some test runs myself, just picked the car I remembered having somewhat control with from before. Forgot that I'm never in control in Sweden :D

Had 2 good stages, and 1 ok, the rest were lessons in frustration. Which puts me overall around where I usually end up, hehe.

I think I just drove the cleanest Sweden I've ever done, but that's not saying much. I drove slowly and did a lot of smaller mistakes, had to reverse twice on the night stage and lost a wheel punctured a tyre near the end of the sixth. But still, I actually had some fun in Sweden. That's rare.

I'm just glad that I was able to finish Sweden, the result was already expected considering that I'm no good with Group B cars and Sweden.

I fell off a cliff :(
Xpander 3 Nov 2017
I nearly fell off the cliff three times :D .. 2 times i was on the snowbank, really close, one time i made a spin from huge speed, it was miracle that i was back on the road after that spin :D

anyway, summary:

S1: spin
S2: spin at high speed, super lucky to not get DNF
S3: clean
S4: 2 spins, crash into cars, 2 times close to DNF on snowbanks
S5: clean
S6: spin with reverse needed
S7: small crash into the fences, crash right before the finish, reverse needed

I realized I might not have time to play this weekend and decided to get this done with. Driving while tired is always a bad idea and it showed (had to reverse over the finish line with a puncture at some point... again), but all those mistakes didn't hurt my times as much as I expected.

Skully and Arnvidr: The Delta S4 is a fun car, but just a bit too "fun" on these narrow roads. I've driven it off the edge so many times in Monaco... Although I guess it's so fast you might get a good time even if you drove extra carefully.
Skully 4 Nov 2017
I went whizzing off a cliff. Strange, I normally do well at monaco. Actually think I might of suffered from being over confident. Also I now bought a wheel. Not so good with it yet, but with enough practice I hope to at least match my controller times.

Quoting: GuestMonaco shows how much bullshit the devs can do. In Greece you can go down to road and you can still recover. In Monaco you go over a little snowbank, and you are done.
Punishing but realistic, I'd say. Just try falling down a mountainside in a rally car and then push it back to the road... if you're still alive. It does sometimes kick in a bit too early, when you haven't still quite gone over. And some spots don't look quite that steep. This doesn't spoil the experience for me though.

Quoting: GuestI am also done with the game after 120 hours, there are bugs that bug me even as a very amateur racer.
I guess you got 120 hours of entertainment for the price so it's not too bad. Just out of curiosity, what were the bugs that most bugged you? (Pardon the pun.) I mean, I haven't run into many problems I'd call bugs in this game.

Quoting: GuestIt was fun though, have fun guys.
Thanks, I certainly will.
Xpander 6 Nov 2017
So Monaco claimed many souls. 6 Made it through. UK is starting now, will be fun with the Manta :D

I havent noticed any anoying bugs with the game, few minor issues only. ~110hours played for me and still enjoying it.
