State of Mind, a fantastic looking futuristic thriller game built with Unreal Engine that's coming to Linux

Agreed. The style is intentional and super effective. It looks like a work of art.
I am hyped about this. Or rather, "No Man Skyped" about this.

Quoting: GuestQuoting: Comandante oardoAnother low poly graphics game... No thanks. To be honest, in this case it's a very clever decision in game design. The style is basically timeless. This kind of graphic will look still great in 5 years because it's not trying to be realistic. Realistic graphics ages and will probably look awful in some years.
next!..
Also, in my opinion, this graphic is perfect to transfer the feeling of the dark, bleak and hostile setting of the future.

I'm not a fan of Daedalic adventures, albeit the artwork of their games is outstanding most of the time. State of Mind looks great as well and sounds quite interesting. But 2017 is still a long time to go. Let's see. I may consider it when it gets released on GOG.com.
^ This.
Reminds me of A New Beginning, which had a lot of potential but was absolutely shallow in the end.
Quoting: FeistCould be really nice although I admit that the useage of so many "big words" (transhumanism, separation, disjuncture, reunification, existential, post-material) leaves me wondering if the game can do justice to the description.

Ok I just did some digging & found out there's a regression in nt.dll in Wine 1.9.17, it's been fixed for the next update (I think) but NMS should start if you set the windows version to XP 64bit. Gonna test it once I get wine re-installed.

Sounds like a bit of "Deus Ex" possibly mixed with some inspiration from "SOMA". Could be really nice although I admit that the useage of so many "big words" (transhumanism, separation, disjuncture, reunification, existential, post-material) leaves me wondering if the game can do justice to the description.

Pandorum the video game.
Looks good but have to agree the voice acting isn't great.

That version of Wine is waayyy too old. Try a version from a couple of weeks prior. ie. Wine 1.9.16.
See here for descriptions of Wine versions that people have provided results for:
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=34054
I don't have the game personally (as it's not something that looks interesting to me), but I use Wine a lot.

On the topic of step #7. I've done everything correctly (as a newbie to Linux; with the help of a very experienced friend verifying everything) and even used an older version of Wine, as 1.9.17 evidently doesn't like No Man's Sky. Step #7 doesn't leave any room for "Oh. This isn't working." and I'd like to find a little help with it. For someone with the time and willingness to help:
o I have Linux Mint Cinnamon
o I have Wine 1.6.2
o I have all the No Man's Sky files (2) and patches (2) downloaded
Have run No Man's Sky installer
No Man's Sky "installed"
There is a desktop icon ("Launch No Man's Sky"), both on Linux and Wine desktops
Double-clicking the icon will open Wine desktop momentarily and then close it.
"Launch No Man's Sky.lnk" in /home/myname/.wine/dosdevices/c:/GOG Games/No Man's Sky, delivers the same result as the launch icon.

Valve has been supporting Linux longer than a lot of us know. In the uncorrected proof of Valve's book about their game development, Half-Life 2: Raising The Bar, they mentioned doing Linux builds for Day of Defeat or Team Fortress Classic, I can't remember which one.
Also, you can find some very old Linux makefiles and linux-specific code in the leaked source code for Half-Life 2, all the way back in 2003.

Their work on the AMDGPU driver has been quite rapid given their work load. Been using it now on my 290x for a month or so without issue. Hell, mesa 12 + AMDGPU driver runs ARMA3 rather well.
