Papo & Yo finally has a Linux version on Steam, two years later
By km3k, 14 January 2016 at 7:40 pm UTC Likes: 1

Wow, I wonder what took so long. The DRM-free version from Humble Bundle supported Steam achievements and everything when I played it around a year ago. At the time it seemed to fully support Steam but just hadn't been uploaded to Steam. I'm surprised it took so long to do.

QuoteThis is one game that has not aged well at all, the UI even at 4K resolution is massive and looks quite washed out because of stretching

Isn't this a good thing? Looking washed out isn't great but the fact that the UI scales/stretches at all needs applauded.

Is there some reason it's $5 more on the store than on Steam?

Quoting: BumadarI find it more troublesome that Linux is suddenly in the category of a console...

On a related note, how do they define consoles, and how exactly is a Steam Machine a console?

I've been quite happy with Empire. It's the first Total War game I've ever played, but everything I've read suggests that it's where the series peaked (either Empire or Shogun II, depending on who you ask).

I wish there were a demo* - I am not sure how well this will work in a Big Picture / living room setup with a Steam Controller. Biggest concern being text and UI legibility at a distance. I guess the closest I will get is gameplay videos on YouTube. I'll have to check tonight. This is definitely the setting that interests me the most!

* - I don't want to buy and refund if I don't have to.

Quoting: leillo1975Noooooooo, Don't work!

I launched the game and It worked, but when I clicked in "Tutorial" it showed me that I must chose an option in the list, but I didn't have options. I closed the game and I re-launched it.

After this the game don't load. If I open Steam in a terminal, the game indicated me that I should send to feral a .dmp file.

The only problem I have with wine is that I can't get games running under it to recognize my Logitech F310 controller.

Heroes of might and magic III, Settlers IV, Flatout 2, Dirt 3, Skyrim... these are games I really wouldn't like to miss. So Wine is pretty important to me. And it works much better than I initially expected.

Sounds great. I have issues with blooming (being... well... way too bloomy) and splitscreen not working properly on my secondary PC (R9 270). Hope the fixes get implemented in oibafs ppa soon...

Interesting. Quite tempted to try this, even though I'm not sure my system is up to it.

Also happy about the Mesa support (albeit with the development warning - nothing to worry about from personal experience) instead of Catalyst/Radeon Crimson, and the Intel support.

Although I'm not very willing to gain the favour of the pope, usually...

I haven't had much luck playing Steam games through Wine. I tried Lego Lord of the Rings and got some strange error that it couldn't access the graphics device.

I wonder. Has anyone seen the how many Linux gamers there are vs. Ouya gamers? I can't stop thinking, "Ouya? We lost out to Ouya?"

Quoting: Mountain ManIf I couldn't play Diablo 3 using Wine then I'd probably still have a Windows partition.

I still hope Blizzard will one day support Linux, but until then, Wine is an acceptable alternative, and the performance is actually pretty good.

I had it running quite nicely with gallium-nine (native dx9>mesa) except for some subtle microstutter which kinda ruined it for me.

Been waiting for Blizzard to offer up Linux support for years, don't think they'll bother unless they see SteamOS or some other Linux gaming platform take off.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleLook, anyone cranky enough to complain about this would probably never have bought this game in the first place.
You must be joking, right? Why, because of the subject matter? So every time someone makes a game around a tragedy, we must allow them to use that as an excuse to screw Linux users? I don't think so. I paid for this game OVER A YEAR AGO and was told there would be a Linux version AT LAUNCH. Like every other Kickstarter project that has screwed Linux users, I think I have a right to be a bit annoyed - especially when the developers were completely ignoring any and all communication on the matter until yesterday.

I use lord heavy's mesa-git on Arch and have been playing GRID Autosport with no real issues for the last few weeks. Getting 25-40 fps @ 1080p (medium settings) on my R9 270. Not silky smooth performance, but still very playable.

Breach of contract? I mean, technically, they're got a contract with Kickstarter backers as well, so not delivering for Linux, when they said so, makes them default on that. And technically with every backer, not just Linux users.

Except the people who helped it on Kickstarter.
