As somebody who has worked with Both Unigine script and Lua based engines - I have to call BS on that one. Uniginescript isn't particularly harder to work with. It's an algol family language like C,C++,D,Java,Ecmascript(javascript). It is not really any more difficult to use than say using Javascript to make a dynamic web page. It is close enough to C++ use a C++ IDE including syntax highlighting and code completion.

Having an Aesthetic preference for one language over another is one thing. But calling either a nightmare is indulging in a conciderable amount of hyperbole

Why do you call it a waste of a license?

It's not suitable for us currently. Before we won the license we had no idea what the engine is about. Would you want for us to spend 5 years in development with Unigine and then switch back to DP engine or UDK ? :)
Unigine is powerful, multiplatform, but not without weaknesses. It's scripting is horrible IMO. They should have went with Lua or something similar, not with C++ like scripting nightmare.

Quoting: "motorsep, post: 2473"We are still prototyping, but went far enough to say that it will be a dungeon crawler, with randomly generated dungeons, towns, crafting, magic, trading, quests, demos, etc. in first person view :)
The video is showing an outdoor area test with Darkplaces engine. Very raw. We just trying to keep you guys posted on almost every step of the development.
Unigine is not suited well for indies. I mean, coding for it using their script is a nightmare, because one has to be a skilled C++ coder. There is no way to get 3D models / levels out of Blender into Unigine and the exporter isn't coming any time soon. Plus out tech support will expire pretty soon, and that means no updates for the engine and no help if we get stuck with their "evil" scripting.

But you did win a license, right?
Is it just going to waste? (-:

What do you mean by lots of stats you can tweak? Like skills / parameters to level up ?

I am perfectly happy with you continuing using the GPLed DarkPlaces engine. ;)
randomly generated dungeons
I would have preferred well designed levels and a good story, even if it's linear... :/
Oh well, still looking forward to what comes out of it. :)

Finding a Linux specific vendor in the UK is near impossible, any that do offer VERY limited options.

Yeah my next buy after this notebook will most likely be an AMD fusion laptop since they will be perfectly supported. Just the current crop didn't have the performance i wanted.

Ah, okay, that does suck pretty hard. I guess maybe next time just shop from a Linux specific vendor? Or do as I do and always go with AMD... (and let the flame war begin!)

It never listed Optimus like anywhere and i didn't know until turning it on...then i couldn't take it back for a refund = screwed, so right now i am not using Linux and considering my position as site admin.

Edit -> Post has been updated, so you know we are also the website that interviewed Keith before and we are quoted in two official Desura blog posts - I don't pull news out of my backside ;)

Helena the 3rd now available to buy from the Ubuntu Software Centre
By KIAaze, 7 October 2011 at 4:11 am UTC

Ok, after a lot of trial and error, I figured out why I couldn't see the button.
It was because of NoScript. But that is not all:
Even with the default NoScript settings and all scripts allowed, the "buy" button is not visible!
To see the "buy" button, it is necessary to uncheck the "Clean suspicious internet requests" box in "advanced->XSS" (translated strings, so maybe not exactly the same in English).

I think that's quite a big problem since most NoScript users won't even see the button. :/

I also tried the site in Chromium and there it also behaves a bit strangely:
The website loads correctly with the button, but when clicking it:
1) A new tab opens and it shortly displays "uploading..." in the status bar until the paypal page appears (probably perfectly normal, but not very reassuring)
2) If I close the paypal tab and click the button again, nothing happens. (If I leave the paypal tab open and click the buy button again, it reloads the paypal page.)

The button code (slightly formatted) according to my understanding:
[HTML]

Quoting: "KIAaze, post: 2409"Mmh, where exactly is the "buy" button?
Or maybe I'm just too tired.

Also, I remember the game being open-source. What is the current status?

The game is closed source and has been completely re-designed much has changed since then. The buy button is located directly under the helena the 3rd image.

Cheers
