Me reading the title: Really? That’s cool.
Me reading the statement: eh. Not as cool as I thought. Better than nothing, of course but eh.

BattlEye confirms Linux support for Steam Deck, will be opt-in like Easy Anti-Cheat

Absolutely hate the fact that this and EAC are opt in. Willing to bet most game devs won’t check that box for proton support.
I mean, this is definitely a good thing, but it still requires developer cooperation. I won’t be playing PUBG or Far Cry 5 on Linux any time soon, if ever.

I have seen people on YouTube talking about Adobe Premier as if it is the only way to edit videos professionally... and they can't see anything else.
Heck, I know people that think Windows is a must have for gaming. They refuse to acknowledge that Linux even exists, let alone is a viable alternative. Had an argument not long ago with someone that thought only Windows could be used in high end gaming.

Quoting: furaxhornyxWhile I agree that DaVinci Resolve is a great software (I am not a video editor though), I guess it is not enough to make a lot of people make the switch. The problem I see is tunnel vision. When something becomes big and popular, many people can't understand that there are viable alternatives.

Valve rolls out big Steam client update with new Downloads Page & Storage Management

Clearing up what games will and won't run on the Steam Deck

Honestly, I expect it to work with everything. Valve has advertised that it works with everything... All my games should run on SteamOS. I can even install other launchers. That's what they told me. So that's what I expect.
I have had pretty good experiences with Lutris and Valve's Proton over the past couple of years, and my computer is way less powerful than the SteamDeck (That is sad to say :P), so I already know from experience that the majority of games will work fine. The only games I've ever had an issue with were anti-cheat games, and GTAV. And the problem with GTAV is because my computer isn't powerful enough. Heck, it barely runs on Windows.
I did have some issues with Origin too, but I was able to run Blizzard Application and Epic Games Store just fine under Lutris.
What I am expecting from Valve is an easy way to install these other game stores. Yes, they are competitors but Valve promised me that I could.

Steam not working right on Arch Linux? It's an issue with FreeType and there's a fix

TBF, this is one of those reasons why I always let updates go a week or two before I update. Windows taught me that updates can break things, and it's best to let an update get tested in the wild and hotfixed before I update.

Unlike the other two major desktop operating systems, Linux gives you the freedom to change what you don't like about the OS. Not a fan of the desktop? Swap out gnome for MATE or KDE or Budgie or one of the many other choices. Don't like Ubuntu (And its derivatives) release cycle? Go with Arch and its rolling releases.
I admit that it does still have some way to go when it comes to gaming. Would be nice if Steam wasn't the only major platform to support it. Would be nice if Proton worked with all games flawlessly (Though I understand Valve and EasyAntiCheat are working on this). Would be nice if the other platforms I mentioned could release their own native clients that made use of said Proton.
ETA: Outside of gaming, I think Linux is perfect. You can do virtually anything you can imagine. While it is true that Adobe products present an issue, there are other powerful alternatives like Davinci Resolve.

What does Linux mean to you? Let us know in the comments.I've said this before and I'll say it again... To me, Linux is freedom personified. The freedom of choice. The freedom of privacy. The freedom of security.

Zorin OS 16 Pro brings a little Windows 11 flavour to Linux

And to be fair, even though I've been using Linux on and off for nearly two decades... I still prefer the Windows-like UI over stuff like gnome.
I would never use this one though... Windows 11 is IMO ugly. I prefer the more Windows XP but darker type UIs.

Quoting: MalWhen I forced my father to use Linux (Because he kept breaking Windows...), it was Linux Mint 13. The Windows-like interface really does help for some users.Quoting: Guestwhat's the point of providing a windows 11 layout? Not even windows users want that. The first thing I see them doing is to try to find the setting to put it back in the corner.Uh... Old people already accustomed to that windows if I had to find a use case.
When I "forced" my father to linux I gave him Zorin and it made the transition smoother since GUI issues are factored out. After the conversion is done it's surely possible to move on to more functional interfaces.
