Lenovo Legion Go S sees a massive price jump

Quoting: eggroleWhile the AI induced price hikes are annoying, I think it is going to be even worse in the long run. Back before Covid it seemed like corpos had a fear that if they increased prices customers might stop purchasing. But the price hikes of the Covid era taught them people were willing to absorb a lot higher prices. Over the last few years of "new normal" those "temporary" price hikes never really came back down.

At this point I think the AI stuff, while a valid partial reason, is more being used as an excuse to pump up the price of everything. Oil probably plays a role in this as well, but we all know even if there is a real reason for price hikes, the hikes themself will likely be higher than what the market shifts would suggest.

I would love to see more people simply say "no" to these new prices and not buy. Not a full-on boycott per se, but to at least send a message. The consumer really does have a lot of power here and it is such a shame that so many people will hold thier nose and spend.
This is so on point. My GPU from second half 2025, I have bought cheaper than my GPU from 2020, and it's more or less the same category, more or less double the performance. The crypto mining fever also felt like it would last forever. Most places were out of stock for GPUs for a long time, prices were IMO higher, in the end both shortages and the new price level became a standard.

By the way, the crypto bro letting you know how many watts he's burning, or the LLM bro how many tokens he's burning through, basically same $h1te.

D.O.R.F. has been on my wishlist since June 2023, says here on my wishlist. Why must you make me suffer, Liam? Why must you dangle it in front of me like that?

Unity CEO says an upcoming Beta will allow people to "prompt full casual games into existence"

Quoting: eggroleI'm constantly going to bat for AI, but even I can see this is total bullshit. While AI has its place, it is nowhere nears "prompt and spit out a game". I think you can argue that AI can help in places like concept art, voice acting, modeling (as in UML), or helping with code (more of a glorified search engine assistant), but spitting out whole games is a bridge too far at least considering the state of the technology today. Maybe a year or 10 from now things will be different.

All that said, this feels like another attempt to goose the AI bubble. All the Nvidia/OpenAI investment "controversy" lately is showing a lot of cracks, or should I say pins, around the AI bubble. This might be an attempt to delay those pins a little longer.
Just to say this site is a luxury, to get opinions like these and articles like Liam's.

Marathon from Bungie is out March 5th - likely unplayable on SteamOS Linux

Quoting: JarmerNobody from the Bungie glory days are still around. The suits are running the show, and when this doesn't get instahit status, which it won't, they'll shut it down.

Nothing to see here, just a shambling corpse. Safe to move on.
Do you know where they went? I really played the game a lot and I still like many aspects of it. But over the last few years, you could just tell how little art, story, etc., mattered anymore. It became all about grabbing cash. But I’d at least be interested in seeing what the talented people who used to be at Bungie have put together now.
Hmmm... Concord? That's not a joke, that was a rather expensive project made with former Bungie devs.
Maybe the better answer is that clearly, management don't have the ability to recognize "talent" in general, so don't be surprised if the talented people happen to be "made redundant" or "replaced by AI" or who knows.

Quoting: pbWhat an odd piece of information to publish on GamingOnLinux.
What's odd about it? It's an article informing readers about a title that could be the next big popular multiplayer game, and how it will likely not work. This is pretty standard stuff for us.
That's right, exactly why we're here, exactly why we appreciate this site, (besides your coverage of RTS of course).

Quoting: eggroleWasn't this game the one where they literally stole art? Not even AI bullcrap, but flat out stole it?

I don't know all the details about how it ended up, but I'd imagine the anti-AI crowd here would be *way* more upset of outright theft of art.
Yeah Bungie, the studio which is already in trouble anyway, because the last demo of Marathon went so bad and they know it, Bungie, some of whose former members made a little offshoot studio called Firewalk and a little game called Concord. At this point, how damn good Marathon has to be, not to be ridiculed into oblivion...

Has the term "RTS" become so taboo at this point, that we have to designate this game as "a MOBA where you lead an army of soldiers" instead?

OMG you guys are presenting such an enticing picture of this game that I almost forgot that on top of all that the thing is freaking 70$ for a product that apparently doesn't even run properly in lots of computers.

The golden age of real-time strategy returns? Dying Breed releases October 7

I'd say that the golden age already returned with Tempest Rising.
There are some who weren't satisfied with Tempest Rising, to them Dying Breed won't be good enough either.
