KDE Plasma 6 goes Wayland by default, initial HDR gaming support

But changing it as default is no problem for me as long as the old option is still available.
But back then I was trying out Gnome, maybe on Plasma I wouldn't have had those problems in the Wayland session.

Quoting: slaapliedjeJust seems weird to me. Anyhow, doesn't really matter as long as the sessions are available for each for compatibility (as I've stated elsewhere, I still have some randomly weird issues with Wayland, like Firefox and on-screen keyboards not activating).I have exactly the same experience. Gaming on Wayland (at least with AMD) is no problem for me. In fact I already use a Plasma Wayland Session on Nobara. But last time I also tried doing work on a Wayland session there were always things which didn't work, like not being able on Firefox to put a tab to a new window, drag and dropping of files sometimes didn't work. Screen sharing didn't work in many applications, mouse control with virtual machines had bugs. For now I still use Xorg.
I'm still at the stage of switching to Wayland, finding something that isn't working right or irritating me how it works, then flipping back to Xorg. Maybe one day they'll get there... :P

Quoting: MayeulCI still think client side anti cheat is not the way to go about these problems.Yes it should be done on the server. Client side anti cheat will always be possible. I guess the reason no one does server side anti cheat is that you would probably have to implement it for every game individually.

Quoting: JacksonI always feel like they are going to bring back the Original Steam Machines, but instead of it failing by relying on native ports, now they can use Steam OS on it.Oh yes, the time might be ready for that.

When I saw the video about it on Linus Tech Tips I immediately thought about the Steam Deck. I think that would be very cool. Would be cool if someone or the company releases a mod for the current Steam Deck.

What I wonder more is that they can port it at all, as this game was a showcase for the fast SSD in the PS5 and the direct GPU access to the SSD. Either they have loading screens sometimes which the PS5 doesn't have or they can put all the needed Texturesin the VRAM somehow.
Besides that, fantastic Game, I played it already on PS5.

What's more annoying to me is that in some Games on the first run predefined settings are set for the Steam Deck. But the profile is nowhere selectable. So if you change some things you don't know what the "curated" Steam Deck Settings have been.
In one Game the resolution was set to 1280x800, I changed some settings, and somehow it also changed the resolution to 1280x720. I couldn't change the resolution back it was not in the list of supported resolutions. So it seems the resolution was hacked into the configuration file. So changing back to "optimized" Settings wasn't easy after that, not doable within the game.
I kind of like the idea that I don't have to tweak the config on Steam Deck. Or the best of both worlds would IMHO of be you can tweak, but you can easily switch back to "recommended" Steam Deck Settings.

Quoting: Guest8.6 tflops is crazy number for a handheld device, it is twice bigger than ps4pro, on par with rtx2070 tier GPU, and just a bit behind current gen consoles. you literally can replace a decent gaming pc with itIt's really just a number. What I see so far is that in real life the Z1 Extreme is only a little bit faster than the Z1 due to bandwith limitation to the RAM.

Nice! For me personally it means I will buy more games on steam and less on PS5.
I wonder how it technically works though. Why does it need a special compositor for that and what about Kernel, DRM etc.? Are there changes too?

But I still see problems, for example the upcoming AMD 7000 Series GPU will probably not be supported by Ubuntu 22.04 until 2024 (correct me if I'm wrong). As far as I know, the LTS Enablement stack only allows you to update on an older LTS to some current LTS packages.
Sorry, I just saw that also non LTS-Ubuntu Kernels and Mesa will be used. I have to rethink the recommendation for distributions then.
But 7000 Series User will probably still have to wait until April 2023. But for sure a big improvement to how they handled it before.

Quoting: CatKillerOh I just see that since 20.04 they enable it by default. That's nice!Quoting: kaktuspalmeYes, but a user has to enable it. That's too much for a regular computer user to ask for.No they don't. Installs that come with a desktop environment are on HWE by default. Headless server installs are not on HWE by default.
