Finally this question was responded after the many requests in the Steam Forum [External Link]. Maybe these do effect.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI hardly ever use the terminal. The way to work like that is to use a user-friendly distro (in my case Mint) and not to try to make it do weird things. Soon as you're trying to do weird stuff, you need the power of the terminal.
I have been lately seeing this same statement in many places, forums, etc. "I hardly ever use the terminal" or even "I refuse to use the terminal".

It is kinda telling who has gotten to Linux and from where, how far Linux has come in user friendliness, and what is the preference to use a computer (say, after a long days work). Click click and click

First up, run these install scripts one after the other in terminal:

curl -s https://raw.githubusercontent.com/89luca89/distrobox/main/install [External Link] | sh -s -- --prefix ~/.local

curl -s https://raw.githubusercontent.com/89luca89/distrobox/main/extras/install-podman [External Link] | sh -s -- --prefix ~/.local

Next up, we need to add the directories it uses into our .bashrc file, so we can run commands as normal in terminal. In your .bashrc file (found in your Home folder), add these to the bottom:

export PATH=$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH

export PATH=$HOME/.local/podman/bin:$PATH
Only curious for absolute new comers who may not know what "terminal" is; is it in practice possible to do all this without a terminal? If so, how most effectively?

Apparently Tim Sweeney now loves Linux https://twitter.com/TimSweeneyEpic/status/1564669527165702145 [External Link]

Meanwhile, the Epig (typed correct) game store doesn't have a controller support, nor a way for it to play Linux games. I wouldn't support Epig in any way, until they start to give Linux love technically.

Prodeus cancels the Native Linux version, focusing on Proton compatibility (updated)
6 Sep 2022 at 9:33 am UTC Likes: 2

we won't be able to make a Native Linux build, there were far too many issues and we couldn't get it to run properly. The Proton version of the game has a much smoother experience
How can this be? Why is it this way all the way nowadays? The game runs better on the get go via assets and tech made for Windows rather than what is meant for Linux?

Linux user share on Steam continues the slow climb, SteamOS rises

I think Ubuntu should be combined as so "Ubuntu 22.04 LTS / 20.04 LTS" on the list.

It shows that Ubuntu is still the most popular one LTS's combined. I mean Ubuntu is Ubuntu. The combined share for Ubuntu is 15,26 %.

Quoting: JpxeIsn't Flatpak the solution to this? Then you can just target the runtime environment and it will always stay the same
Or Snap rather. Snaps are much more versatile than flatpaks. They are not each others drop in replacements against a surprisingly common misconception.

Packagers in general very often choose Snap because Flatpak is made for desktop applications only, while Snap can ship libraries, apps, server/CLI software, and much more.

The longer initial startup time of Firefox is most definitely not a reasonable excuse to suggest ditching the whole thing which is a work in progress anyways.

Free and open source multiplayer voxel RPG 'Veloren' version 0.13 is out
26 Jul 2022 at 10:36 am UTC

looks like installing it is still entering a world of pain though. none of the 3 ways seem to work: https://reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/w6s477/veloren_fresh_release_but_both_flatpak_and_snap/ [External Link]

i wish installing a simple game would not be, at least this confusing, to begin with
