While I have no problem with Flatpaks (in contrast with Snaps, which I really really dislike), I think we as a community shouldn't rely too much neither of them; also, as a sysadmin for decades, and gamedev on the side, I'm a advocate of ImgApp, it's less convenient in some scenarios, but it's also a lot more straightforward. Last time I checked, only OpenSuse came with it out of the box, while flatpak and snap... is everywhere now.

Quoting: EikeSecondary gaming device? :-D
Or, deserved by it's importance, "owning Steam Deck [ ] yes [ ] no"?
What is the information that adds if somebody owns a Steam Deck or not? I understand the importance of the device for gaming since it's powered by a fork of Arch by Valve, and it has helped a lot the advance of software like Proton, Wine, the refinement of Vulkan and OpenGL, developers taking more seriously Linux, etc. but I have been following GamingOnLinux for years since the days the site was not popular as it is right now, and nowadays it feels each day that passes, more and more of the news of the site, ignores, or heavily prioritizes, all SteamDeck related, getting for me to the point it feels more GamingOnSteamdeck rather than GamingOnLinux.
The site is beginning to prioritize the SteamDeck more and more each day it passes, and because the staff and specially Liam can stay up only so much time, I know the site it's ignoring (or giving a lot less priority) to what's happening on the gaming on Linux desktop experience (which it's much more diverse and more complex, therefore it would benefit a lot more being covered... that was what attracted me in the first place at least).

I'm trying to be objective here, just remembering the GoL from 2 years ago compared to what is it now. A balance of news on both fronts would be the best option, but I also know it could be too much work.

I know most people won't like my comment but being able to discuss things like this are a key point in the open source world community.

Steam Desktop and Steam Deck Beta reduces startup time, fixes more bugs
11 Feb 2023 at 12:18 pm UTC

What I really don't like is that they disabled the option to launch the Steam client with the --no-browser option if using the beta... that was a life saver for me for some games given I have an "old" Geforce GT 1300 (which I bought new last year)

Looks like a proper "Vampire Savior" genre gamer, I don't know if I'll get it because, as you said, there are already several games of this style, and I think I found my favorite one a month ago or so, 20 Minutes Till Dawn (with 10 Minutes Till Dawn free demo, the 10 minutes are for the runs in the game).
There's even a Holocure made of the same style because of the incredibly rise of vtubers.

Dead Cells price hike in Argentina & Turkey due to cross-region purchases

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoValve and only Valve is THE guilty of this situation.

Valve must eliminate right now the online availability of Steam wallet codes in Argentinian and Turkish currencies.
To require credit cards from the country you are is the only way to sort this.
It's very difficult to get a credit card here. Only prepaid debit cards are available for the middle class, and myself personally, a few digital banks that popped up because we don't want to use our coin anymore.
To put it in perspective, Argentina is the country with most dollars on the outside than in the local banks. Government taxes are like 70% the value of what you buy.
It's an old model that will change next year because elections and a right wing capitalist leader figure waiting to become president by the people.

But this will happen soon to 1st world countries too if inflation keeps rising, therefore, I have studied a lot different economic systems, and crypto seems to be the only and best solution for everyone. You can see there popped out many sites that sells Steam cards for USD or crypto.

GameMode performance tool from Feral Interactive version 1.7 is out now

Quoting: notmrflibbleIt still needs systemd and is therefore still incompatible with Devuan. I still won't be using it.
Same here with MX Linux and sysvinit, although it supposedly also supports scripts for systemd, it is not always the case, systemd divides us again. Feral are very based though, maybe they would read this and apply a fix?

Super Hexagon is getting a big overhaul available in Beta now

I liked the first game and played often, but the difficulty curve have sold more copies if there were 2 or 3 easier levels, I'm not saying an easy mode.

I'm on MX Linux Debian based, changed to the beta, found no difference so far? did something wrong?

The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is out now

I liked it.. and it's just a "soulless" game maybe, but that makes it feel really "Portal 1"-like to me. Also, good lord, the performance it's astounding, I know it's just a map and assets with some interaction, but still, I knew since the first loading screen it couldn't be Source.

Sorry Arch (EndeavourOS), it's not working out any more and hello Fedora
9 Apr 2022 at 6:58 am UTC

Hello, we have chatted before on Twitter when your site was small, I doubt you'll remember me.
Anyway, because Arch *needs* to be bleeding edge, it always uses the latest packages, we all know that; now, I have a Geforce GT710 2GB VRAM, although I can run 95% of games of the 700 on my list, NVIDIA decided to drop support for my card and throw it to legacy drivers. And Arch didn't like that. Manjaro also didn't like that. So I said bye bye and just got a SSD, I would use my HDD to put games, builds, etc, and the OS on the 256GB Kingston SSD.
I decided to install MX Linux, which I never used, and sounds strange, but that is because it's the devs of Mepis and Artix joined and made this distro. It was on top on DistroWatch at that time, and was on top yesterday as well.
It's super stable, everything works, the default WM is XFCE, and the best thing is, it doesn't use systemd, uses a custom sysv on init. It's FAST, I know I never tried a SSD, but I can tell it's really fast.
So, I update packages every time is needed, and set to use the latest NVIDIA drivers that supported my card. I don't like Legacy.
All games work as before, and with this speed I don't see the value on using Arch, I prefer something more stable, I already got speed.
