NVIDIA to launch DLSS support for Proton on Linux tomorrow (June 22)

Quoting: jgacasSame day AMD is releasing FSR, interesting...
Its going to be interesting especially if FSR benefits last gen Nvidia equally, or almost. DLSS is a fudge though to hide the brute force nededed to render 4K with full RT enabled. As Quake 2 RTX was as quick on Linux as Windows in the main with similar FPS we can hope . Can't wait to try Amid Evil with RT on in Linux.

NVIDIA DLSS coming to Proton, plus GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti announced

Quoting: toojaysHopefully this means Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition will be playable soon. Although I only have a 2060 so maybe it's irrelevant.
It plays OK on my system minus the RT and DLSS which show in options but not accessible. and DLSS should help with a 2060 once up and running. Real test will be when we see what Proton does with Q2 RTX v the native Linux version.

Not just for gamers though, this could be a pretty valuable tool for developers to test their games too.
I think this is the real reason. I have seen a number of small devs post comments like "I don't have a linux machine" in answer to questions about porting games (or fixing the games they already ported). If it is super easy to plug in a USB drive and have an instant test environment, it would make many of those excuses go away.
TGhere are plenty of USB distro's out there, Puppy is one, but one set up for gaming and game devs to use would be good

Postal 4 Janky Alpha runs fine now, previous version sound stopped working is fine now. question is what will the drivers be like with ray tracing as it becomes more common, given Nvidia and AMD will have different approaches? and will an AMD Big Navi have decent Linux drivers given many might buy AMD and give up on RTX 30XX due to lack of availability.

Microsoft Edge now available on Linux in Preview

Quoting: MakiI'm still thinking EEE was a thing, might still be a thing, and the last thing I'd want to subject any computer to is a M$ browser... Edge might not be as bad as IE once was, but I honestly wouldn't know as I will not give it a second glance even if paid to do so. I'd need to read the source code first.
Its mainly Chrome underneath isn't it? I won't be bothering with it, Its too much Bing for me.
