Road Redemption Released For Linux, It's In Bad Shape

Quoting: titiSo if you want a lot of different and sometimes unusual games, you have to live with early access and you should think about supporting a game you like by testing it and give feedback to the developers.
Then go use a crowdsource service on it, imo. If it is unique enough it should gain attention.

There's so much junk coming from these low resource "indies" - and so much abuse of that program to milk the market - that to keep the Early Access system up because of the few, rare gems out there that seriously needed this funding is like shooting sparrows with cannons.
Plus, the mainstream never understood the concept of "beta testing" to begin with, and this "Early Access" feature only adds to that confusion.
Regular gamers - console or PC alike - expect a game they pay for to work. End of story. It's that simple.

Quoting: GuestToo bad it wasn't FO4.
Everything I've read suggests to me that Fallout 4 is crap, at least if you're a fan of RPGs. It's less of a roleplaying game and more of an FPS with RPG elements. I'll stick with Wasteland 2 for my post-apocalyptic RPG fix.
You can't have played and/or liked Fallout 3 then? Cause everything - and I do now mean everything - in FO4 is an improvement over FO3. The additions are great (you can now create/design not only your own house, but a whole village! How cool is that! :) ), nothing is taken away, nothing is simplified/dumbed down (have you seen the skill trees?!), everything is "more of the same, only better".

So if you simply can't stand first/third person perspective RPGs ala Fallout/Elder Scrolls then that's fair enough - what did you expect from FO4, really. But objectively speaking these productions are great (if a bit buggy).

Road Redemption Released For Linux, It's In Bad Shape

Quoting: TheBossI think people put too much power in the term "release". If it's available to purchase with real world money, and to download and play then it's released.
... and this is why they should stop selling pre-releases.

Quoting: TheBossEarly Access/Alpha/Beta etc are all made up terms by developers.
Alpha/beta/pre-release/release candidate/stable/unstable are all technical terms that describes the current state of the software. It's well established terms - however only within the software developer communities. The consumer/mainstream have the attitude quoted at the beginning of this post. And that is - again - why they should stop selling pre-releases. It's become the new "releases". When a game finally is at a release state, it's "old" in the mind of the market. That is just fucked up.

Quoting: TheBossMy point: it's just a word(s), you're still paying for an advertised product, so it should work to some real degree here.
Yes it should! And I do clearly understand your perspective as a regular gamer.
Games are buggy enough at release state today, we don't need the market flooded by beta builds and test builds. It's doing us all a disfavour. This is why "Early Access" never should be part of the Steam marketplace. It could perhaps be a special program accessible via some crowd sourcing gateway or something.

Still - a pre-release is what it is. And it should be ignored completely by the mainstream. Preferably it shouldn't be there at all.

It's still in early access though. I would not call that a "release" in the classic meaning of the word, but rather a pre-release, beta or test build.

Rocket League Linux port is being worked on still, developers are listening

There's delays one can understand - almost expect - and then there's delays that makes me worried. This is one of those.
Wasn't this supposed to be ready at the launch of the Steam controller? Were'nt they so sure about that, that they even marketed it as a launch preorder bonus?

Quoting: wvstolzingThe lyrics to 'the Royal Scam' mention 'the City of St. John', which is supposed to be in Canada; and it's implied in GTA V that Trevor Phillips is from Canada -- so, there you have it, it's GTA V.
"GTAV on Linux" is our Half-Life 3. :)

Hmmm - the first title that came to my mind is Dishonored, although that was probably wishful thinking since the story was about an empress and her daughter - they don't count as royals, do they? But there was definitely a scam at play in that game.

I guess it's no surprise, but damn.

This Xmas is shaping up to be something very different than I expected for Linux gaming. :-(

GOL GOTY Awards Coming Up, What Do You Want To See?
17 Nov 2015 at 8:33 pm UTC

My suggestions:
Imo there could easily be both genre and general categories, ie both "best strategy game" and "best graphics" - where obviously a release can be nominated in both. That's pretty common out there.

Also, please curate the nominees. Last year was silly with all the contestants - many of them had nothing to do in a "best of the year" contest.
Let it be a list of five or so within each category - or make exceptions if there is a category that demands more than five titles to choose from. Or let each category have ten for that matter. Or a mix. Just curate it, please.

Lots of good points there, @tuubi, and I'm dying to continue the discussion. But let's not hijack this thread anymore.

Sorry, Liam. :)
