Back in the days they had to do it like this because of the limited computing power, it was a workaround and they tried as hard as they could to make it look like they were in three dimensions. It wasn't really a design choice at all, then.

Quoting: NexxticIt's not cheap actually! Quite the opposite even! This may be a stupid question, but it begs the question: If it's not cheaper, not easier... Then why do it? Why not instead spend that time on full 3D models? I mean, there's a lot one can do if one wants a retro vibe to a game.

I think it's odd that so many apparently want to use this kind of computer with a graphical user interface? IMO these little beauties are to be used for headless purposes, that's when they shine!
Sorry Arch (EndeavourOS), it's not working out any more and hello Fedora

To be honest, if one just want a general purpose box that is stable and just works I see no real reason to go for anything else than Ubuntu. It's the "boring" alternative, but shit works.
I consider other distros as more of those with "special interests" (for example a distro primed for audio work, or minimal footprint, or headless, or low hardware reqs or whatever) or for those who simply want to explore. Of whom neither is any of bad or negative motivation at all.
But if you're not one of those, I'd say "go Ubuntu".

One could also argue that these things could easily be implemented in the game itself, and not outside in a dedicated launcher.
So personally I'm not so sure this is the reason!

Quoting: GuestPublishers want data on who's playing what, when and where.I'm pretty sure they already have stats on this via the Steam platform.

Valve should make it a requirement that all games support a --no-launcher option.

There's a lot of "nonsense" that can be added to a system configuration with little effort, but every additional setting clutters up the settings interface one bit more. Maybe it should rather be implemented as part of a "battery save" mode.

Quoting: gradyvuckovicThey should have probably added 20 while they were at it.But why?

Quoting: ST34MF0XYeah but WHY a 15fps mode for them, why not just keep it at whatever fps it can deliver. Battery life maybe?Quoting: BeamboomI wonder what their use case is for 15fps, that made it this high on the priority list...!If I had to hazard a guess, it would be for non-realtime games, and maybe for games which do not rely on fluidity of motion. RTS, turn-based RPG's, jewel or puzzle games, card games etcetera.
