This makes perfect sense. No need to get our panties in a knot over it.

PipeWire is the future for Linux audio and I am sold on it

Quoting: garpuIt's impressive, but if you do any kind of audio work, it's not quite there yet, especially for real-time audio. But if you're doing that, you're using jack, anyway.
I'm using pipewire in music production as a dropin replacement for Jack, and can use pretty much the same buffer settings on pipewire. But then again JackD never provided the ultra-low latency that I see others claim.

There's some minor issues, but it's SO great to not have to fiddle with two parallel systems (pulse and jack) that I can live with those as development progress.

Feral Interactive have no plans to update their Linux ports for Steam Deck

Quoting: gaboverstaThey are not saying that they won't optimize future ports for Steam Deck and they are also not saying that no game that has already been ported will ever receive attention for a better experience on the deck, there just aren't any plans for that currently.
Guys! It's not the porters task to change functionality and/or GUI of the ported source! Y'all are aiming at the wrong guy here.

Feral makes ports of the source provided. Period. If there needs to be made alterations of the source, being it the GUI or game mechanics, controller support or whatnot - it's changes that needs to be done within the source! When that is done - and only then - should Feral take over the task of porting this patch to their ported version.

I seriously doubt they contractually even COULD do such changes even if they wanted to!

Quoting: rustybroomhandleMany Windows-only games are being updated for Steam Deck. Controller support, correct controller glyphs, readable text, support for the quick suspend mode, on-screen keyboard support.
This is not the job of a porter though - it is something that needs to be fixed in the ported source.
Porting is not about altering the content or functionality of the source at all - not even font sizes - it's about making a code base run on another platform.

Proton 7.0 out with Easy Anti-Cheat improvements, more games for Linux & Steam Deck

Quoting: MayeulCDoesn't work on odd days? :P
Haha!

I see the protondb page fills up with error reports too about this now, so I feel kind of a relief it's not just me. Some claim the game will start if the system already plays audio (!) but that's no luck for me.

However, if I delete the content under SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/1091500 the game starts - but then without the savegames.

It really is odd, this.

Quoting: BeamboomHere's hoping that this will also make Cyberpunk 2077 work again, after the massive patch yesterday...!
Just a quick update on this: It seems it was an installed mod that caused the problem. Worth noting.
So all is good in the hood, and I've started a new playthrough :)

EDIT: Nope, today it won't start again. yesterday I did a fresh install, I bet that if I do do again it will start again... until I start it a second time. something is amiss here...

Quoting: FrawoOf course I had to do all the tricks recommended on protondb, but I don't remember what I did exactly.
Oh look at that, indeed there's a lot of info on this over there now! It wasn't back when I tried, now this looks promising.

Thanks for this info!

Quoting: impartiallydeadJust tried it out on Pop!_OS, and it didn't work with the real-tone cable right away, but there are existing fixes to get it to work.
I've briefly looked into that, but it seemed they required a manual wine bottle setup, outside Proton. Is that how you got it to work too, or did you use a different method that utilise Proton?

Quoting: Liam DaweWorked fine for me after the patch, checked again this morning with Proton 7 and still works fine for me.
Really?! Oh man that's a relief cause I can't wait to check out the new stuff. And you're on Nivida, right? My install flatlined after the upgrade. Thanks for that info, I'll have to look more into this then!
