F1 2016 won't be coming to Linux, as sales of F1 2015 weren't strong enough
3 Apr 2017 at 2:53 pm UTC

Dang, I wish I knew that beforehand so I could try to help by buying some copies of F1 2015 to gift to some fellow penguins, perhaps even starting a task force.

I really enjoyed F1 2015 (still am, actually) even if it's the most feature-poor game in the franchise. The post-patch version we got on Linux had none of the bugs that plagued the Windows version upon release, and its more strategy-packed approach to racing was a good break from GRID Autosport, which is just about running as fast as you can. So no F1 2016 for me, unfortunately, but at least I can have DiRT Rally to look for after I am done neglecting my family for Motorsport Manager.

Civilization VI released for Linux, video and port report (updated)

Quoting: MintedGamerBundlestars also have it on sale for 5% less than on Steam. I've just bought it and am downloading.
I don't know about Aspyr, but at least as far as Feral ports go, I plead you to not buy from Bundlestars; they only sell Windows keys, so Feral doesn't get a cut and your purchase contributes to Windows gaming even if you only run it on Linux. You can read it from /u/edddeduck_feral himself [External Link].

Aspyr's deal might be different, but I doubt it. To be safe, my advice is to avoid Bundlestars overall. If you don't have the money for the game yet, wait a few more months until it gets a deeper discount. Nobody is going to die because of it.

Croteam say all Serious Sam games are on their way to Linux with Vulkan, also VR on Linux teaser from Valve

Quoting: johndoe86xProper mult-monitor and split-screen? That could potentially mean that two people can play co-op on separate monitors. That would be amazing!
Wow, that's a great idea! Does any game actually support co-op on separate monitors?

HITMAN for Linux officially announced, port by Feral Interactive and arriving this month
8 Feb 2017 at 6:34 pm UTC Likes: 2

Quoting: MikeActually I was thinking about giving up and buy it for Windows, as the complete edition was out and nothing announced for Linux. Now I know I will get it in a few days! I just have to buy a new HDD, possibly 4To to keep up with all those ports :D

This teaches a lesson: Never lose hope on Feral Interactive, they are the one porting the greatest games! Thank you guys!
In the name of the whole community, thanks for waiting to buy the Linux port! There are some games I am dying to see on Linux (e.g. GTA V), but I think chances are abysmal. Even so, I am not nearly desperate enough to give up and throw money towards Windows gaming if my wish doesn't come true. Dang, if anything, I am desperate for time to play all the Linux games already available!

DiRT Rally announced for Linux, arriving on March 2nd

Quoting: PompesdeskyI have one month to find a good racing wheel. If you have some advices or experiences they're welcome :)
I've bought a used Logitech Driving Force GT for around 60 € last year and couldn't be happier. It works out-of-the-box with GRID Autorsport and F1 2015. I believe it has the best cost/benefit of the market (top-tier wheels like the G25, G27 and G29 will set you back quite a few hundred bucks) and is a great option for your first wheel. The only thing I miss about it is a clutch pedal.

The top 100 best sellers on Steam from 2016
2 Jan 2017 at 11:35 am UTC

That's a nice page, but I don't think it's a new sale: the Winter sale ends in about 6 hours, and I see no indication that the top 100 will be discounted for any additional time.

X-Plane 11 system requirements revealed, needs plenty of RAM
16 Nov 2016 at 10:05 am UTC

Quoting: melkemindThe minimum requirement is 8 GB of RAM, still quite a bit for a game, but probably low enough for most people.
I was about to contest that, then I checked Steam's Hardware & Software Survey [External Link] and it shows over 50% of surveyed users have at least 8 GB of RAM. Considering only Linux OSs [External Link], I see almost 1/3 of surveyed users with 12 GB or more. What the heck, guys, are you gaming on server machines? :D

Alienware manager on Steam Machines lull: Windows 10 changed things
14 Nov 2016 at 3:10 pm UTC Likes: 3

Quoting: OLucasZanellaBasically it was just a bluff.
I wouldn't call it a bluff, but it was surely a hedge. IIRC, even Gabe Newell said so back when we released that stern statement on his worries about the direction Windows was heading and why he's pushing SteamOS. Anyway, I hope he still believes in all he said on that talk about Linux and gaming [External Link] three years ago.

Alienware manager on Steam Machines lull: Windows 10 changed things
14 Nov 2016 at 2:56 pm UTC Likes: 3

I get a feeling gamers are not very platform-loyal when compared to, say, phone users or non-gaming PC users. We've seen marketshare majority change hands many times in the console industry because gamers care more about their games than about the software behind them. This may change a little as consoles become more PC-like, but I still believe a couple more fuck-ups is all that it takes for Microsoft to lose a rather significant chunk of marketshare to a competitor. Now it's up to Valve to create a suitable competitor; poor project management made the first batch of Steam Machines the exact opposite of what they were supposed to be: instead of bringing the best of both worlds, they've released machines which were too expensive for console gamers and too limited for PC gamers.

Site update: Our livestream page can now show community livestreams
12 Nov 2016 at 8:13 pm UTC

I'm really glad you took the idea and improved upon it, Liam! The ical is working fine, I can see in my Google Calendar the same events from the events page. However, the Community stream for Total War: WARHAMMER shows as "GOL Livestream > Total War: WARHAMMER". Shouldn't it be something like "Community stream > Total War: WARHAMMER"?
