Interplay updating many classic titles on Steam to add support for Linux

Quoting: foggerYou can already play those games easily on Linux with DOSBox. I don't know why they are selling those games on Steam or GOG when most of those those games can be downloaded for free, legally, at archive.org.
Ha, Archive.org is an interesting situation. There is no legal definition of 'abandonware'. But archive.org also won't listen to dmca take downs from what I've seen.

But let's be fair here. Steam is a click and play set up, and with Boxtron you can even have extras like MIDI autodetected and set up for you. Downloading things from archive.org requires the set up of dosbox, and all the settings that entails, so isn't exactly the easiest thing to do. While most of us on here can do it, for the (hopefully) plethora of new users that'll hop on board via the Steam Deck, they won't want to mess with dosbox.conf.
Great points. DosBox can be hard to setup and funky with displays/resolution/audio and controls, last time i tried it was a less than pretty experience.

I wonder if its possible to use remote-play-together on these old dosbox games via steam for two player?

KDE celebrates 25 years with a big new Plasma desktop release

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI don't actually want any of this stuff for my own personal desktop, but I agree it would be cool if we had it.
If Linux had an app that was fully/partially integrated say into Gnome / KDE. Then spanning ultrawide / multimonitor would be easier and probably better than what is available on Wallpaper Engine. Perhaps even there could be some super low impact pixel art animation variants based on tile regions so only small parts of the desktop are animated and such the CPU usage would be <1%

Also the Gnome workspace overview with blurred / animated background would look sick.

I do not want this in 4k on my SteamOS3.0 desktop, i don't want it to look like a modern tricked out desktop. Ooohh wait, yes i do

Quoting: smnIf you think your computer is running too cool, you could go to the wallpaper settings in kde and install a plugin to run shaders.
That's the problem, without animated, transitioning desktops it's not cool enough 😎

I just want animated/interactive desktops on Gnome/KDE. Like Wallpaper-engine ( https://store.steampowered.com/app/431960/Wallpaper_Engine/ [External Link] ) but native to Linux rather than having to run steam in the background and with extra features like night/day transitions (other than the simple one currently offered which isnt really a transition, but more of a wallpaper switch).

Sure there are goofy workarounds or scripts but to actually have a WPE like application that is integrated better into the DE & even interactive (like a built in conky) would be nice, with a Variety like app indicator to quickly access settings, change or pause etc.

It's weird that this doesn't commonly exist on Linux given that Linux distros have forever been all about creating that custom aesthetic. From 3D cube desktops, to firework cursors and wobbly things. Weirdly Windows itself now seems to feature more of the kind of theming/animation elements id expect out of the box on most distros that seems to be missing (excluding the likes of Deepin and other customized community KDE distros)

Qualcomm, Valve, AMD and more team up for Wi-Fi Dual Station
7 Oct 2021 at 2:14 pm UTC

Quoting: GuestProbably just some wifi-6 features being wrapped up in nice marketing terms to convince everyone they need this, and to get ahead of the competitors (forcing them to be compliant to whatever wifi quirks Qualcomm have).
Lets hope so. proprietary software/hardware that goes outside of industry standards (especially wireless transmitters) are usually horrible for everyone else that's on the (regulated) 802.11 standards.

But im sure it's fully compliant.

BattlEye confirms Linux support for Steam Deck, will be opt-in like Easy Anti-Cheat

This is fantastic news.

If the developer STILL doesn't support proton/AC in any way shape or form after the wall has been lowered so low they can step over it and gain revenue for next to no effort, for no other good reason that they discriminate against Linux people then maybe we don't need those studios/developers. On any platform.

i guess the only other thing valve could do is lower their take from 30% to like 29.9995% to cover for the cost of adding AC.

Can't wait to play CS:GO on the steamdeck !

ohh wait, it's a terrible port with bugs and performance inconsistencies lasting for years now that totally stopped me playing and enjoying the game. The Linux version needs cleaning with a Vulkan port and preferably sooner rather than later.

Quoting: seanbutnotheardTo each their own, I suppose, but to me, politics poison everything they touch. For games, this is true whether or not one agrees with the developer's opinions. My favorite games transport me to another reality, rather than reminding me about the things I'd rather avoid in this one.
That's why im increasingly playing more retro games.
