Quoting: saturnoyoOn the other hand I think people are happy with the Valve Index, it's difficult to say since they don't allow reviews of it.
I wondered what you talk about. I guess it's Steam reviews, because of course there are reviews about it out there.

Unlikely, since BTRFS does not have casefolding which Proton uses. Casefolding for now is only available with ext4.
Hmmm I actually use proton on top of btrfs, what issues will this cause ? Can I assume some of my games are broken because of that ?
Windows developers expect "load 'myfile'" to successfully load "MyFile". This can be made work with "case folding". So if some games don't find their files (which might result in many different symptoms), this might be the reason.

Quoting: inlinuxdudeI remember playing this co-op with my wife on console. Would love to run through it again with her! (especially if there were steam workshop mods etc.. available - I wonder if that will be a thing?)

SteamOS for the Steam Deck gets slimmed down to 10GB

Quoting: TermyDoes anyone know what the hell they are including to make it that big? Even with several proton-versions preinstalled it shouldn't get up to 10GB, let alone 24.
Or are they maybe going in the silverblue-direction and include a bunch of redundant libraries?
How much would you consider reasonable for a Linux desktop installation plus Steam and the Protons?

PUBG's newer anti-cheat sounds problematic for the Steam Deck and Linux

Quoting: EhvisWine and Proton are not kernel drivers. But what if you had to run a binary kernel module of unknown origin before you could do that. Would you still be willing?
Strange thing is, this might have happened when I used Windows, but I couldn't see me doing it under Linux.
Well, maybe this "I didn't know" is the difference already. Plus I didn't have to do it actively.

Quoting: CFWhitmanI work in an IT Department, and, "Don't deploy on Friday," is probably our number one rule. If you deploy something on Friday and it causes a problem over the weekend (and you are not the one on call), you will get bawled out.
Yeah, we found out the same in the last years. :)

Quoting: KallestofelesMaybe one day, in a perfect world, KDE would finally become stable enough to daily drive it. But I guess that's besides the point.
Running it daily for many, many years.
Don't know what you're talking about.
Probably you're not daily driving it on Arch.
Debian stable (in the last years).
Might make a difference. ;)

Canonical want your feedback on Ubuntu Gaming

Quoting: RedfaceNeither Debian or Ubuntu use the packages build by the Debian developers so your statement about that Ubuntu is stable because of the packages build by developers makes no sense.
The stability of a distribution comes from the release management, build procedures and QA, all of those Ubuntu does independently of Debian.
Wtf? Of course Debian and Ubuntu use the packages built by Debian developers...

FFS.
That's not true anymore for some years now.

November marked 7 months of Linux rising on Steam & 5 months above 1%

Quoting: elmapulthe question is: will stake holders care about us?
Hm.
My first reflex was "Yes, if they're acting reasonable. Money is money, little or much." And "Porting will be the easier the more platforms they support in the first place." Like, when supporting Windows and XBox and PlayStation and Switch, Linux is not too hard to do.
I guess the problem is that developers are scarce and even if Linux is worth it, making them do something else promises more money.

More BattlEye titles for Proton on Linux including DayZ, ARMA 3 now supported

I have never played DayZ (but watched some of it when it was new).
What should I expect if I tried it today, as a beginner?
