A note on using Steam Play Proton and counting the sales for Linux (updated)
19 Feb 2020 at 2:30 pm UTC

Quoting: Liam DaweRight now, it might not even work like that at all. All we know, is that it's clearly not working as it's supposed to be.
It's just a guess, but if just Proton attribution is not working, but the rest does as it used to (you reported games with Linux sales that didn't have a Linux version way before Proton existed, just due to the system used for buying), that should be the - odd - outcome. Let's see. At any rate it's unfortunate, and it's sad they didn't find out themselves way earlier.

Quoting: Liam DaweA developer has now confirmed to me they see all show up as Windows, for a game even I personally purchased 100% on Linux for Proton. Waiting to see if they will allow being quoted.
Doesn't this have the "funny" result that it would have been counted as Linux if you'd bought it under Linux and not played it the first weeks...?

Paradox have updated their handy launcher - should help Linux gamers too

Dunno if anybody cares, but in German, the word "Handy" is used for mobile phone. It sounds like an English expression, but it seems it isn't. Wonder where that one comes from...

Quoting: einherjarAn overlay Crosshair to "Noscope" with sniper weapons may be considered as cheating...
Draw a crosshair on your screen with a marker and nobody will ever catch you cheating!
I am more concerned about the possibility, that such overlays can be used for cheating, and so are detected as cheats.
And BTW, my aimbot works without crosshair :P
What an AI feat...! :-D

I remember they used to they that they have no plans porting this. (Anybody can confirm - or object?)
So is this our first win due to Stadia?

Quoting: SonataCorrect me if I'm wrong, but I think that's partially one of the reasons a lot of indie games actually have a linux port because tools like GameMaker do allow for "exporting a linux version" of the game they're making alongside the obvious Windows port.
That's right. Some even don't have a Linux installed to test it. X)

Valve has banned tens of thousands of Dota 2 accounts as they tweak their smurf detection

Quoting: orochi_kyoYou can see clearly that the problem is not exactly the smurfs, people will behave like this, even in real life, but the people who know the smurfs exist and they decided to get offended by anything.
"I don't play this game because of the community"
If it's not fun, people won't play it. It's that simple.

Valve should have a subscription system like this.
I guess they have to do something like this some day.

Quoting: LinuxwarperIt isn't now you should be judging Proton harshly.
I understand that it's the rescue for some (many) Linux gamers. I fear that it's hindering Linux native ports (while others think it's the possibility for Linux gaming to lift off to get more native ports on the long run). It's an astonishing piece of software for sure. So, mixed bag for me.

What I mainly wanted to say is that I don't feel it will succeed in lifting off Linux gaming, unfortunately.

Quoting: Liam DaweWell, Linux as a whole certainly isn't going anywhere and it seems at least Valve is committed to supporting the Steam store on Linux for many years to come. Even if they end up perhaps phasing out Proton one day, the work they've already helped push forwards has been invaluable to a lot of open source projects.
Sure, I appreciate what they are doing!
Not working out was meant in the way jens was hoping for: Rising Linux Steam user numbers by a significant amount.
