A guide to Steam Play Proton, Valve's tech for playing Windows games on Linux / Steam Deck

Quoting: scaineGreat guide though. Thanks for this - the gifs tell the story better than words ever can. It's nice to have a guide on a Linux technology that doesn't need you to open a bash shell!
I always use shell commands when I want to help somebody, as it's the most reproducible way and the easiest to tell. It's great to have it visible though for cases where you know how it will look like - as in the Steam client.

The Bard's Tale IV: Director's Cut to be launched August 27

Quoting: DuncSo in the last few years, we've had Duke Nukem Forever (the less said about that the better but still, it finally came out), the Doom reboot, Elite Dangerous, Chaos Reborn, Phoenix Point (which is really X-Com), System Shock, and now another Bard's Tale. What old game is next for resurrection?

If anyone round here has the ear of Pete Cooke, a new Tau Ceti [External Link] would be nice.
Add Wasteland II, plus many "spiritual successors" of original developers who lacked the rights to name their new games like the old ones...

We're in a time were older *sigh* people remember the good old times and often have the money to make a little part of them come back...

Quoting: tuubiWell, here's a thumbs up from someone who paid for it (before the steam release).

There doesn't seem to be a story as such like in some of the more famous first person puzzlers we know and love, but the puzzles are fun and the game looks great for a one man project. Definitely worth your time, especially if you're a fan of the genre.
That sounds fine. I was happy with Infinifactory, which isn't famous for its story either. ;-) Thanks!

Key reseller G2A is back in the spotlight again, as a petition is up to ask them to stop selling indie games

Quoting: razing32So what makes more sense ? Sell 90$ game to a few who will buy it or sell 60-40$ game to many more people ?
I cannot really tell what a game should cost, I never saw the numbers of a game producer (and couldn't evaluate them anyway). I got the feeling of a middle ground breaking away (or beeing bought away), something between indie and AAA, but I'm not sure about that either. What I see (in the Steam forums mainly) is people complaining about the price of 20$ indie games threatening to just download them, which I find quite ugly.

Physics-based building game "Besiege" just had a pretty big update, new levels and plenty of bug fixes

Quoting: MichaelDNFinally an update it has been almost a year with no word. I usually don't buy Early Access games but besiege was so fun that I was fine paying full price for the first early release, i'm 100+ hours in already.

I just wish Early Access meant the developers are releasing the game in a year or two not FIVE years and counting..
I bought it IIRC for less than 10 bucks and played it for >10 hours. I'm happy with that. I'd not buy early access if I'm not (probably) happy with what I get at the time of buying...

Sounds good, and 24 of 24 reviews positive (well, quite some copies for free :) ).

Wishlisted!

Time-looping adventure game "Elsinore" is releasing soon with Linux support

That sounds most interesting! If it gets positive reviews, I'm sure I'll get it.

Debian 10 "Buster" has finally been released

Quoting: cprnIs there a way to painlessly restart Gnome on Wayland now? The 'r' command didn't work on Wayland few months back.
A new installation defaults to Wayland for GNOME. Don't know about upgrades.

BTW... With every new release of Debian, I wonder how much I'm missing by upgrading instead of reinstalling. Any ideas?

Quoting: Purple Library GuySomehow I was expecting something different from the title. Makes me think . . . In all the masses of "Tower Defence
After the success (I hope so?) of a realistic RPG, you really should try this...

SteamVR has another beta up, with plenty of Linux fixes and other improvements
9 Jul 2019 at 11:37 am UTC

Quoting: Vash63I'm really glad to see such a large amount of fixes in a single release, but I still can't really recommend people buy VR if they don't want to use it in Windows. Here's a list I made a week or so ago of ongoing issues I've had for years with the Vive and now persisting with the Index:
Thanks for pointing out!
I wouldn't want more computer stuff to fight with.
