Just due to many newbies, or something else?

Quoting: fabertaweI get your "point" but I don't consider 60s Star Trek "woke" at all. Far from it. Sixties Star Trek is one of my most beloved 70s childhood TV memories (and what great theme music btw). There is a massive difference between what 60s Star Trek stood for (the vision of equality and fairness) and the madness that's going on today. Anyway, enough off-topic.
That's what wokeness is all about. The difference is that it nowadays includes people that the Sixties didn't think about (like transgender), and it actually asks for the same rights (like gay marriage). But you can't have equality and fairness without including everybody.

My point is that such response is content for a gaming article. Go blog about it. It has nothing to do in a game REVIEW. A game review is about the game, as it stands before us today. Not pre-hype, not capitalist motivations, not what the fans *expected* or *demanded*, not about the company behind it or how they fare with their fans.

Just a judgement of the game itself, behind the fluff.
That's what a game review should focus on. Can they also MENTION the surrounding chaos? Well, sure. But the rating should never be based on THAT.
So such user bombings of low ratings of the game is just... childish. Like the least effort possible to make a statement. And they ruin the user review feature while they are at it.
Well, let me disagree: User reviews is where the company feels and maybe even reads when they've done something wrong. They don't give a flying one for what I blog. Giving a bad review for bad behaviour is making use of consumer power.

I agree that this might make the reviews less helpful for people only wanting to know how good a game is. But no matter if a game has been review bombed or not, I often look at the highest rated reviews to give an impression.

Quoting: saellavenI've always held the position that wine/proton are great for using older software/games, but harmful to luring people to native ports in the future. Why write native ports when you get the entire Linux base for free? We're already seeing companies that always made Linux a priority dropping native support for future games.
It's true, we are. But we are also seeing Linux native releases from outfits that never did that before.
Maybe, hopefully, I'm only seeing one side of the story. I'm "following" good games with a Linux port, see them making announcements for their next games, and it feels like more often than not, the next game is not getting some love for penguins.

Quoting: AsciiWolfThe lack of a native Linux port is a huge disappointment to me (especially considering that other games from Paradox Interactive got native ports) and the reason why I won't buy this game even though I am a huge Star Trek fan.
... and even more so as it seems to be technically based on a game with a port.
Somebody must have said: "Remove this Linux build stuff from the system!"

Only Windows and Linux, no Mac. They sure know where money is to be made.

Quoting: F.UltraWhat I did find however was on the Wiki on Metal that Apple announced in 2017 that 148k apps used Metal which is only 9% of the number of apps they have in their app store, so it wasn't like people where rushing out to implement it.
I'm not sure this is a useful percentage. Most apps don't need any 3D API in the first place, right?
Which kinda is on point no?
One of us has a big misunderstanding here. :D Let's find out who.

You said "only 9% of the number of apps they have in their app store" have been using Metal. My point is that this might(!) be 100% of the apps needing a low-level 3D API in the first place. So we can't conclude "it wasn't like people where rushing out to implement it".

To all those saying that Proton will lead to more native ports one day by raising the Linux user percentage...
It's not only that most Linux users stopped asking for ports.
Ten years ago, we had Windows users actively speaking out against Linux ports.

Quoting: quotI wish companies would start announcing official Proton support. I honestly would trust the stability of that more than most native Linux builds.
Nowadays, we got Linux users actively speaking out against Linux ports.
That's why I'm pessimistic.
