Over 11,000 games now rated Steam Deck Playable

Quoting: Liam DaweThe point is to play more games and Proton is a constant win.
If the point was to play more games and nothing beyond, I would install Windows.

Obviously, there's something else, something more (or we wouldn't be here), and everybody is free to draw their line where it feels right for them.

Kentucky Route Zero has a big upgrade improving it on Steam Deck

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderIve had this for many years...... I dont even remember buying it........ I should play it one day.......... Is it any good???........
I propose to read this (balanced, but negative in result) review: https://steamcommunity.com/id/thethomaseffect/recommended/231200/ [External Link]

The answer in my humble opinion is that it's impossible for us to say if you might love or hate the game.

Personally, I could not appreciate this piece of art. What I found interesting: According to the achievements, of those who finished the last chapter, ten percent didn't play the last but one. (You can access any chapter in the main menu.) So people wanted to know how this all ends, but the game wasn't interesting enough to follow all the way to the end...

ProtonDB now has filters for PC and Steam Deck reports

Quoting: EhvisNice! That was a big nuisance.

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderFor example...... Look at WRC 8 FIA World Rally Championship.....
It works great now at least on my system..... But 2 and 3 years ago it didnt seem to work at all...... And those now out of date borked reports seem to still weigh the overall rating down to "Silver".........
Applies the other way around as well. Some games update and stop working and reports of previous versions keep the rating high long after the time it started to fail. A reduced weight for older reports or older proton versions would definitely help.
A "trend" rating could be helpful.

Doom (1993): steam deck Unsupported, but Valve just needs to get on re-examining that rating because it performs like it's steam deck Verified.
This shares the predominant case in the "Unsupported" category: "Valve is still working on adding support for this game on Steam Deck" - which usually means "it works". According to CheckMyDeck [External Link], that's the reason for 2273 of 3174 "Unsupported" games. There's games in this state for a long time, I'd say a year. @Liam, could you find out more about this? @Smellbringer, this is smelly, ain't it? ;)

Now official: you can buy a refurbished Steam Deck from Valve

Quoting: GroganHmmm... that doesn't bode well that there are quantities of "refurbished" Steam Decks already.

1) People not happy and returning them
2) Returns of defective units, repaired.
Do you know how large those "quantities" even are?
No idea, but I guess there's average numbers for the industry somewhere? If it's say one percent in average, they might have some 10.000 devices hanging around. That should be worth to sell them, but I'd expect the refurbished variants to go out of stock not before too long.

Quoting: slaapliedjeI'm on the side with 'needs numpad', there are older games that absolutely require the numpad (I'm talking games like Dungeon Master mostly).
That reminds me. Are there, like, standalone numpads? Seems like with all the people loving their very different setups that would be a thing.
Yes, dozens [External Link].

Linux overtakes macOS users on Steam thanks to Steam Deck

Quoting: PenglingPutting on my portables-enthusiast hat for a moment, we really haven't had proper competition in the handheld market in decades, and it hasn't helped that Nintendo has opted not to directly compete with other manufacturers since around the mid-2000s (something the Steam Deck is probably now going to force them to do). With rumours that the Nintendo Switch's successor will be out next year [External Link] (which sounds like a kick in the teeth for the new customers in countries where the Switch has only just been released [External Link]), we've got interesting times ahead.

As with anything, the best games in the handheld space always came about when competition was fierce (when naming favourite handheld titles, I always notice that they're usually concentrated around either the Game Boy or DS eras - both times when there was serious competition), and even with the Steam Deck being a general-purpose PC underneath that's still going to apply here going forward, so I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. We should get some good games out of it!
Who would be going to make games for Steam Deck because of The Next Switch? I can't see it...

Wow, I thought the big buttons would be extras, but you get both with the keyboard, for £90! I'm in. I'm not gonna pre-order, but this could be a sweet little christmas present from me to me this year, we'll see.
Psst, don't tell, it's a surprise!

What? I live in Estonia and i don't know anything about this. lol
at least not in massive scale. There ofc are some small initiatives here and there.
Could be i live under the rock though
Oops!

What I see explicitly mentioned is X-Road [External Link] and Estonia's image of "E-Estonia" [External Link]. Of course, the German view on Estonia might be not as accurate as the Estonian view. :D
