Linux user share remains above macOS in the latest Steam Survey

Quoting: Guestdo they make the datasets public? Would be fun data to play around with.
Unfortunately, it seems these numbers are all we've got. Would be great if you found more.

Another question, does somebody have survey results of the last months or years stored? Would be interesting to draw the Mac line as well. :D

Looks like the big rise as well as beating Mac could be real!

New update for Dota 2 might pull me back in, with new reporting and matchmaking

Quoting: 14These changes sound really good, really promising. I have to assume the real-time reaction to reporting must be AI empowered. I just can't imagine an employee staring at a screen, sweat running down their face, trying to cast judgment on as many reports as possible per minute.
There's a lot between AI and humans, though. Like, algorithms.

Sad it wasn't.

Deimos Games shutting, making Helium Rain and Astral Shipwright free to play

Don't know if native speakers feel the same, but 'free to play" always got the sound of "you can buy powerups/DLCs/hats/whatever" to me, so I'd call this just "free".

Canonical give some thoughts on the future of Ubuntu Desktop

Quoting: CyborgZetaRegardless of my mixed opinions on Canonical/Ubuntu, I will continue sticking with Kubuntu as my distro of choice. It just works well for me, and I've gotten very comfortable using it. I tried switching to Debian w/KDE, but I found I had to do a lot more setup/work to get it where I wanted. K(U)buntu just installs or sets up a lot of things on its own that I needed to do on Debian; like detecting my printer OOTB.

And in case someone asks, "Who still uses a printer?", well I often need to print shipping labels for myself; and sometimes a document along with it.
But isn't the printing problem solved for like a decade with every modern printer supporting WiFi printing (not invented, but brought to every printer by Apple(tm))?

Quoting: dziadulewiczMany proclaim "they have left Ubuntu" for something else but keep on talking ill about it
So, to sum it up, if you don't like Ubuntu, you should better use something else (sounds reasonable to me), and when you're using something else, you shouldn't talk bad about Ubuntu (why's that?!?)? How comfortable, so in the end, nobody is talking bad about Ubuntu, no matter what they do!
i think youre purposefully understanding him/her wrong  for me and millions of others Ubuntu is good as is and no OS is perfect
I didn't say (and didn't want to imply) anything at all about the quality of Ubuntu. I was solely talking about the right to criticize stuff.

Quoting: Liam DaweThe point is to play more games and Proton is a constant win.
If the point was to play more games and nothing beyond, I would install Windows.

Obviously, there's something else, something more (or we wouldn't be here), and everybody is free to draw their line where it feels right for them.
I get what you’re trying to say, but there’s a big difference. One is Windows, one is just a compatibility layer on Linux. Yeah people can draw whatever line they want, doesn’t mean the line makes sense.
My line is not yours to judge, Liam. I'm not religious about it (I do buy games to run under Proton for my children e.g.), but I personally did not install Linux to run exes and dlls, and that's a reasonable line, just as others are.

I could talk more about it, about second and third class customers and the like, but all of us have been through this often enough. I just want other stances to get the same respect.
