The first dev-diary for 'Surviving Mars' from Haemimont Games and Paradox is here, looks good

Unlike Tropico, which Haemimont Games previously worked on, they're going for a more sandbox approach instead of following some sort of campaign.
Oh, come on!!! I hate open-ended games like that, a Campaign is the way to go. I like to play games like if I was reading a book, follow along an interesting, captivating story, not arranging random pieces of loosely coupled fragments of tales here and there. I guess I'll have to buy Maia instead.
Oh, I missed that part. Personally, I'd rather have the choice between campaign and sandbox, given the choice.

Of course most city builders haven't got much in the line of a story, just a tutorial, but I think a science fiction concept like this is more suited to one.

I like exploration a lot, but there's nothing in the trailer or description that entices me to try this one. Having to install libraries is a turn-off too.

Quoting: PhiladelphusAnyone with a telescope can look at Mars by eye (as I've done, as an astronomer) and verify that it actually is that color. No conspiracy theories needed. :)

You can also visit Mauna Kea in Hawaii if you'd like an example of someplace that red here on Earth (it's the best Mars-analog we have, they test rovers there before sending them to Mars).
The famed "bright red mud" of Prince Edward Island in Canada (excellent potato growing soil) comes to mind as well.

Quoting: SamsaiThe only positive thing I can really say about World of Castles is that it has plenty of shatters.
It's almost like they're infinite!

The design of the environments oddly reminds me of Stardew Valley.

Looks really good in terms of gameplay, although the dead-eyed, expressionless characters still freak me out too much.

The next three major Steam sale dates have been leaked

Quoting: 14I kinda wish there was just one annual Steam sale. Man, when that first one landed years ago during a winter that I was trapped in another State due to a snow storm, it was amazing! I was so pumped! I spent over $100 on that sale. But now, there have been so many sales that I have a pile of games I've never played. I'm not very excited to get new games, even if they're brand new, because I don't know when I'd even play them. I'm just now playing through The Witcher 3 for the first time since buying it on Black Friday last year.
I know what you mean. It used to be an event, something to get excited about. But now it's like eh, there's gonna be another one in a couple of months anyway (or what, three before the end of the year?) so what's the big deal? Plus the fact that I have a lot less money for games these days, so I'm less likely to buy something on the spur of the moment anyway.

The new version of MATE has a bunch of new UI stuff aimed at attracting Unity lovers who don't want to stick around with Vanilla Ubuntu. Probably a smart move on their part, carrying over stuff like global menus and the HUD.

Quoting: KelsI've been seeing discussion about this, wondering just what the devs who leaked are getting out of this. Seeing as sales are traditionally depressed right before a sale people know the date of, this just hurts their full-price income. It's not exactly a benefit, and in fact I don't really see anything positive for the leakers.
How many persons with a healthy mind pay full price for a game?

I think the TRUE price of a game is the one that the game has on sale...
Take a look at Shadow of Mordor Bundle [External Link] AKA Shadow of Mordor GOTY... How many months the game has been "on sale" for just 5 U$D?

But, sadly, big publishers raise the base price before joining the steam sales.
That answers a grand total of nothing. Markup exists, I get that. But why would a publisher leak something that, for the period preceding the sale, makes them fewer sales at full price? How does any of this benefit the developers who made the leak?
