Albion Online's big final beta 'Hector' update has launched, it has issues on Linux

Thing is, I wouldn't mind playing this as a more "support" type character, where I'm going off into the non-PvP wilds, exploring and gathering materials while fending off mostly hostile wildlife/monsters, while still playing a role in the larger player base. That kind of thing appeals to me more than going head-to-head in hostile zones. But there'd need to be stuff to do, interesting things to find when exploring, world lore to provide immersion, etc.

Quoting: KelsBut what do we have for MMOs with PvE content on Linux? All I can think of off the top of my head are Runequest, Ryzom, and I guess Wakfu, all of which have their problems.
Runequest ?
Isn't that a board game.
I thought you mean Runescape , no ?
I don't play either one, so close enough. :P

But really, is Runescape worth the trouble? It seems hard to find an accurate answer to that given how committed the die-hard fans seem to be.

It's also worth noting that Minetest released their new version on Sunday, but there was no news article about it. Changelog for 0.4.16 is here [External Link].

As always, I still think they need a ton more PvE content to keep people interested.
Yup, as a non PvP interested player , that's what I want :)
I guess even if they'd add more PvE content, most non-hardcore PvP players are probably not very likely to touch a game having open world ganking and player-looting with the proverbial 10-foot pole. I am longing for a great Linux suppported MMORPG as much as anyone, but this game is simply not it. It will be a very small game appealing to a very small group of players. They might have some fun with it. But a big thing it will not become.
I'm on board with that, the player-looting especially is a big turn-off since it encourages player-hunting even more.

Quoting: scaineI suppose the issue is that people rarely play "out-of-the-box" Minecraft, which is what Minetest is most like when you fire it up. You have to add a lot of add-ins to get Minetest to even be a game. It's just a creative-mode sandbox at first, no enemies, no end game.
So....because people add lots of mods to Minecraft, then Minetest is inferior because you need to add lots of mods? Sounds legit.

In fact, even the underlying feel of the game is pretty different. But there are full-skin modules/customisations which are attempting to recreate the entire Minecraft 1.7 experience in Minetest.
I'm not sure if you're suggesting this is a good or bad thing for Minetest. I see it as very similar to the people who try to make Gnome3 look & feel like Windows. It's hobbyists doing hobbyist things.

Pyre from Supergiant Games is coming to Linux, should be a day-1 release

I like Supergiant's work a lot, even if I've got a habit of not actually finishing their games.

But yes, as AlveKatt said I meant it in the more general sense rather than anything specifically about Aryvandaar. I mean I don't even know them, they're probably a lovely person. It's more that it's a phrase I've heard a lot, usually in the context of putting people down for being "thin skinned" which I think is kind of awful.

More specifically for moderators though, whoever's doing the moderating should be prepared for a certain amount of heat directed at them. Moderators will always be seen as power-hungry/mad, unfair, biased, and any number of awful things by some users. They'll always have people complaining about them, so you have to be ready for that. But at the same time, you have to be sensitive to more than just the most "thick-skinned" members of your commenter base. It's a balancing act, but a worthwhile one.

Quoting: liamdaweIt's a dumb saying. Either way, I don't care if people think I am "thin skinned", I am who I am.
You're squid-skinned.

Is "thick skin" really a great thing to have? Doesn't it just mean giving awful stuff a pass? I would imagine that's not a great trait for someone moderating, and trying to make the site welcoming for a broad range of people.

In my experience if you get too specific on rules, trolls just use them as monkey bars and you're stuck with an endless game of "not touching youuuuuu!" Clearly defined rules are good for things like "no selling products" and so forth, but there's a lot of stuff in personal interaction that aren't so easily codified. Plus, some people get very good at JAQing off [External Link] so you need some degree of flexibility.
