J.U.L.I.A.: Among The Stars Sci-fi Adventure Released On Linux, Plus Some Thoughts

On wishlist now.

I like a science fiction setting too, although I can't get that deep into games where it's all spaceships and no characters. I'd rather get something more immediate like this or say, The Fall or Primordia.

Calling All Web Designers, We Need A New Look

Is this why suddenly I can't see the site banner any more? Additionally, I assume that's got something to do with the featured articles thing being half-covered by the toolbar.

Skyforge MMO May Support Linux In Future

Quoting: MohandevirAside from Champions of Regnum and from what I read there's a lot of critics about this game, it's really hard to find a good medieval MMORPG on Linux. Anybody has a clue why?
Well, it may not be what you're looking for, but I started playing Wakfu yesterday and it's pretty fun. Free-to-play with cartoony, isometric graphics and turn-based combat which flows smoother than I would have expected. More importantly here, it supports native Linux right out of the gate. It has some interesting concepts, like a world ecology and the complete absence of NPC merchants. It's a kind-of sequel to an earlier game, Dofus, if you've heard of that. Very popular in Europe as I understand it.

Maia Is Another Early Access Game That's In Good Standing

I broke down during the last sale and actually bought it. Not because it was playable or I wanted to be a tester, but because I wanted to help support what looked like a great project. And indeed, the dev is really hands-on with the community and making regular updates which is great to see.

Hopefully the next update will take us closer to actual playability. It's getting close.

New Steam Store, Lots Of New Stuff

Holy hell, I just saw that 8CHAN IS A CURATOR!!

For those who don't know, 8chan is where the dregs of 4chan went to when the latter started actually enforcing its rules on doxxing, raids, illegal activity and harrassment/rape threats/death threats following the #gamergate debacle.

Let that sink in for a moment, the people so irredeemable that even 4chan was embarrassed by themare providing product recommendations to Steam.

New Steam Store, Lots Of New Stuff

I'll never understand why the "Recommended For You" includes stuff from my wishlist, since obviously I already know about it so there's no point recommending it to me.

I do like that the front page is now largely Linux, but I don't like that hitting the "Browse by platform" button doesn't give you a category page, just a search result list. I also notice that the occasional not-Linux game slips through, like how it just suggested the new Middle Earth game.

In general I find it slightly better than the old interface, but still very clunky with not much improvement in navigation.

Divinity: Original Sin Still Aims For Linux This Year

As was pointed out on the Steam forums, the tweet in the OP suggests the third party hadn't even started working on it yet. So help me out here, is 3 months, give or take, a reasonable time frame to make a Linux port from scratch?

I played a bit of Divine Divinity a while back and liked it, the writing was pretty sharp. And I got Divinity II in a Humble Bundle (although for some reason I can't find it in my library any more) and it was mostly a lot of fun, although the difficulty tended to be really uneven (super easy bits next to considerably more difficult parts, back to easy again). Hopefully this game will be a wee bit more balanced.

As to fantasy armour being in a fantasy world, it's still humans in the real world playing the damn thing. So maybe not such a great idea to disrespect a part of the audience you want to be selling to, hm?

Heavy Bullets FPS Officially Released Out Of Early Access

Apparently they responded to comments saying the low FoV was making people ill by adding a slider with a good range. You've got to appreciate devs who actually care about that portion of the audience (I'm lookin' at YOU, Metro Last Light!).

Double Fine’s decision to drop Spacebase DF-9 is another huge blow for indie games
19 Sep 2014 at 4:10 pm UTC

Although to be honest, all the projects I've backed on Kickstarter have been good about status updates and so far seem to be pretty on-board with Linux. Plus, I've gotten good results with a couple of EA games, Crea and Maia, both of which are already playable on Linux and the devs are very much involved with the community. So if you pick the right horse, you can get some pretty good results.

Divinity FTW!
Yeah, how's that Linux port coming? Oh, they Tweeted on Sept. 12 about how it might be this year, and implied the programmers hadn't started working on it yet, a year and a half after the Kickstarter wrapped up?

I guess we should be grateful they're still even mentioning it.
