Quoting: liamdaweThat is NOT aggressive. That is me telling people very clearly I don't want idiotic comments about this.
Surely there's scope for discussion that doesn't agree with your position that also isn't idiotic.

Totally have to agree with DrMcCoy. Definitely getting "con" vibes from the situation. Good move on pulling out.

Quoting: AnonymousLast night was awesome. Please do like weekly or 2 weekly TF2 event :DDD
Glad to hear! :D

We try not to schedule more than one TF2 event a month in our primary weekend slots. The servers are always open though and people are more than welcome to use them (and our Mumble Server).

Down the track we may look at doing something more regular outside of our normal schedule, but that's likely to take a while to get together unless we get more people interested in helping out with event coordination.

Quoting: LinasI participated in a few of those. Friendly atmosphere, lots of fun, even if a bit chaotic at times. Also do not worry if you have never tried the game before. You will probably be not the only one. Highly recommended.
Glad to hear such a positive recommendation! Thanks :D

Quoting: DannyWawww... no Serious Sam: BFE co-op? ;)
We did that in March. I'm certain we'll come back for more Serious Sam: BFE in the future :)

Our servers are always open for people to use, though. You may be able to find others who're keen on a game in the SteamLUG IRC channel [External Link].

Quoting: liamdaweI would join in the TF2 event, but sadly it's one of the few times someone comes over to visit!
We've been talking about having regular Guns of Icarus Online events outside our usual schedule. If that goes well, we may branch out and do that for our other more popular games like TF2. Fingers crossed ^_^

For some extra context, Campo Santo is comprised of people who've previously worked at places like Telltale, Double Fine, Klei, LucasArts, Activision, Lucasfilm and Studio Ghibli, so there's some serious heritage of storytelling and compelling worlds at work there.

I was overjoyed when they announced last year that their first title would be supporting Linux and have been following with close eyes since. I encourage others to do the same.

Unreal Engine 4 Announced With Linux Support Including The Editor, Source Code Access & More!

Quoting: DrMcCoyKeep in mind though, that despite what other news sites have reported, while this might technically be "open source", you're not getting free (as in speech) software. It will not be GPL (nevermind any more permissive licenses), and earlier engines won't be GPL'd either.

From what I've read, there's no info yet on how exactly the license will look or how code contributions will be handled.
I believe that is only because they didn't want to call it GNU/UnrealEngine4.
There are plenty of other "open source" licences beyond the GPL or other GNU licences. I haven't read the UE4 licence in full, but skimming it gives the impression that it would have a hard time fitting the OSI's definition of an "open source" licence.

Quoting: Nobody Of ImportThere probably WON'T be any of that forthcoming. To do so, would be to either slander/libel Icculus or to own that they failed to pay him in a timely manner for work done prior to the split in the sheets, an apology to him, and the like. I don't know if they ever caught him up with what they owed him, even.
I don't think this would require portraying Ryan in a poor light or bringing up the state of old accounts (and here doesn't really feel like an appropriate place to be speculating on that sort of thing). Epic don't need to offer an explanation of why what happened happened, just public acknowledgment that they promised something and never bothered to communicate to their customers that that couldn't be fulfilled (regardless of who was "at fault" ). Companies make these kinds of statements all the time, although usually not so long after the fact.

GOG.com Are Going To Support Linux, Confirmed!

Quoting: AnonymousNope. Not one.

The only disconcerting thing is the tendency to "support Ubuntu"- there's little need. Guess I need to get in touch with them to show them the way to supporting Linux proper.
Have you had a chat with Valve as well? They currently only "support Ubuntu".

At this point, I think it's better to ask GOG what their plans are than assume that they're going to do things poorly.

Quoting: PlayXI hope this time they say the truth.
I still remember UT3.
I hope that there's some kind of apology. It would be very sad for them to get away without even acknowledging it (given the excitement I've spotted so far, nobody seems to think they should be accountable for their past actions).

Quoting: IvancilloAnd giving more wood to the fire, 3 or 4 years later, was released a Linux version of game that uses UE3 : Dungeon Defenders. Strange.
The Dungeon Defenders port was done by the fellow who worked on the original unreleased UE3 port using the published Windows/Mac engine source code that Epic make available and his own experience. Since then, at least two more games using that engine have arrived on Linux. Painkiller: Hell & Damnation, ported by The Farm 51's former Linux person, and Papo & Yo, which was apparently ported internally by Minority.

None of these games were done using vendor provided Linux support from Epic. To my knowledge, the situation is as it has always been so far as the engine is concerned. Linux support was promised and never delivered.

Unity 5 Announced With WebGL Exporting, Will They Fix Linux Mouse Woes?

Guns of Icarus Online is the game that I've heard of it happening in the most. It seems to only happen in first person games, and I have strong suspicion that the issue itself hasn't been identified upstream.

What seems to happen is that the game renderer freezes (but audio still plays and the game itself is still running). Alt+Tabbing away from (personally, when I've encountered it, the app itself has seemed to have lost focus on its own in the meantime) and back to the game seems to sort it out, but that's a fairly cumbersome workaround.

I'll be really interested to hear what sort of approaches they'll be taking with regards to packaging.
