Quoting: Xaero_VincentThis might be a possible alternative if the developer could be convinced to port to Linux:

It has a Windows and Mac version at the moment.

Sounds like it's on their roadmap: https://steamcommunity.com/app/485610/discussions/1/133261370002367383/#c133261370002381789 [External Link]

If it weren't though, convincing people who aren't specifically interested in embracing the hurdles that come with supporting an unfamiliar platform to support Linux has greater possibility for long term negative outcomes than positive ones.

Quoting: PhiladelphusFair enough, I can respect that. Thanks for the info. :)
No probs!

The other nice thing (from my perspective) is that Itch allows people to buy, download, and play the game without making an account, so when I distribute on Itch, I'm not asking people to commit to using another platform.

Quoting: PhiladelphusAny chance of this coming to Steam at all in the near-ish future? :)
Unlikely. For this project, I am committed to pay-what-you-want pricing and that is not an option that Steam offers.

For what it's worth, I have verified that it runs and the Steam overlay works when launched through Steam as a non-Steam game.

Quoting: CyrilOK so I downloaded the game without paying to try it out, I launched a "new hive" directly without tutorial and for now... I played it like 2 hours.
Of course I didn't have enough time to get 600 jelly... the queen died. ^_^
I'll play it more seriously and with the tutorial next time, to be sure to not miss some feature etc.

But yeah very good game, so now I bought it. :)
Glad to hear you're having fun! The game lets you continue playing if the queen dies (unless you've enabled "unforgiving game over").

If you haven't spotted it, the "activity" screen from the upgraded Throne Room can point you towards efficiency bottlenecks!

I'm also planning to add a way to review past tutorials without starting a new game down the track if that's helpful.

Quoting: GuestAww cool ! And nice that the soundtrack is on bandcamp. Good showcase for Godot too. And finally Youtube is not acting up anymore. The art is really cute.

I hope the pay what you want model works out. :)
Thanks for the kind words.

Numbers seem positive so far. The average sale price is above $10. Itch doesn't show per-platform sales, but for downloads, Linux is currently at 40% :)

Thanks for the kind words, people.

This project has been a bunch of fun to work on, and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you all when it's done ^_^

Seven years ago today, Steam for Linux went into limited Beta
7 Nov 2019 at 10:08 pm UTC Likes: 5

Some of my earliest articles here were following Valve's early Linux progress before the Steam for Linux beta (more a factor of my time zone/work schedule putting me in a good position to do most of GOL's Steam for Linux coverage than anything else!) . It was great to be on the ground floor in those early days of Steam for Linux, sifting through blog posts, interviews, articles, and databases to find and share relevant/interesting bits of information.

For me, seeing the community transition from Linux users who primarily play Windows games to being Linux users who primarily play Linux games has been the single most exciting time in Linux gaming history. While it's been slow, the growth and increase in accessibility of Linux-relevant skills/knowledge within the broader game development community (which Steam and Valve have definitely been a big participant in) has been the single most valuable outcome for the future of the platform itself.

I'm super happy to have shared the journey so far with everyone and look forward to seeing where things go from here <3

P.S. Seems like a couple of people are into the achievement icon. Sources, etc. can be found here [External Link]. For anybody who's curious, it'll be 8 years old next month, and I made it with the hopes of creating something that would fit in the kind of spaces that projects like Steam might need. It never ended up being used by Valve, but it has shown up in some interesting places ^_^

Quoting: Purple Library GuyOn the bright side, they're all still alive, right? So you haven't actually lost lost them.
I've lost access to them as a cohesive group working together towards common goals - I'll retain individual relationships (something I'm thankful for), but the sense of "family" is gone, and that is a thing to lament.
