Very interested to see how this goes on desktop especially since it can work on all 3 major GPU vendors (AMD, Intel, and Nvidia) from the looks of it. I think a lot of people are awaiting a SteamOS general release, but this might be the best that we have until it is properly out. Universal Blue projects are quite underrated I feel, but it's all new stuff in the desktop Linux scene.

Proton, and the components it is made up of like WINE and DXVK, was a game changer for me to decide to daily drive desktop Linux.

Every game in this bundle is fantastic by the way. Even Hi-Fi Rush and Quake II Remastered where the discount isn't as great, both are still great games.
Off topic for a side note, but I want to inform the author of this article since I read their "about the author" description.
If you currently have a Nvidia or Intel GPU and want a SteamOS-like experience right now then I would just recommend giving Bazzite a try. It's in a pre-release stage right now, but it will come out of that quite shortly with most of the bugs remaining on the Steam Deck variant.
While ChimeraOS is a great project that I would use for other handheld PCs with AMD GPUs, I would go with Bazzite for my desktop/laptop for more functionality and support for a wider range of hardware including Nvidia GPUs.

I just thought I'd recommend this if you're interested in leaving Windows soon

Reserved one with the intention of supporting linux gaming and thinking it wasn't going to be used after a couple of months. I couldn't be completely wrong because I still pick my steam deck up at least once a week. I'm happy that this is such a successful product because it's improving and popularizing linux gaming a ton.

Quoting: slaapliedjeWonder how many are going to sell off their Steam Deck for the ROG Ally. I think Valve needs to release a SteamOS image for it, since they basically make more of their money on people buying Steam games rather than hardware, but I think it'd be a nice slap in MS's face :PKeep an eye on ChimeraOS's 43 release when it comes out. The devs have the Ally and have been doing a lot of development so it works on it. The biggest issue is sleep mode not working properly but other than that that's about the most glaring bug in 43. ChimeraOS is really SteamOS-like, starts with big picture mode that runs in gamescope. The only difference is that it comes with GNOME in the desktop mode versus KDE Plasma.

I love the Fedora image-based distros! Nice to see more desktop environments that will be included officially. If anyone is looking for MATE, XFCE, or LXQt Fedora "immutables" then check out the Universal Blue project - https://ublue.it/ [External Link]

I don't own this, but from what I have read this has to be one of the worst PC ports in a very long time. Which really says something. This is a technical mess that might not be fixed for a very long time.

Heroic
Although I want to experiment with Vanilla OS now from my friend Mirko from the Bottles team.Highly recommend giving this a try if you feel like distro hopping again. It's very much the 'out of the box' distribution IMO.

Quoting: KROMMaybe a stupid question, but I'm wondering if there is an official way to report issues for the deck? There is a "report an bug/issue" button inside the quick access menu but that just opens the steam discussions under bug reports. There's also these github issue trackers:
Since latest stable release I still have these issues:
a) Game collections are duplicated
b) Controller Layouts are even more than duplicated
c) For some odd reason the power button started to behave strangely lately, wondering if it's a software issue
I'd like to create proper reports, like for proton or steamvr, but I don't know where. :)
