UK CMA blocks the Microsoft takeover of Activision
27 Apr 2023 at 6:24 am UTC Likes: 4

Quoting: AsciiWolfThis is actually bad news. Activision is not a good company at all. They did countless bad things to Blizzard and other companies they own. The acquisition had a potential to change it for the better (and possibly bring Blizzard games to Steam :-)).
This is one of the most absurd corporate suck off lines I've ever heard. All that will change would be ownership since disturbing the structure would lose them money and I think you just don't want to recognize that Microsoft's desperate positioning to try and get anything so they can convince regulators is exactly that.

Half-Life: Alyx fully playable without VR even on Steam Deck thanks to a mod

I'm begging y'all to not play the game like this. I understand the point of this mod but the game is entirely built around VR amd stripping such a core concite of the game out reduces what makes it so good. The total immersion in the environment and manipulation of items directly cannot just be removed without the game becoming a shell of it's former self.

Counter-Strike 2 is reportedly a real thing and coming soon

I'm sorry to throw cold water on this but we're going to be seeing a source 2 update to CSGO. We will not be seeing an actual CS 2. Valve cannot and will not abandon the massive economies of in game skins etc that CSGO and Dota 2 provide.

iFixit begin offering Steam Deck SSD upgrades

I hope I'll be able to buy just a shielding replacement. My Framework 2TB SSD just arrived the other day and I realized I would have to be very careful to reapply the shield properly.

Valve starts roll-out of the Steam Deck controller configurator to desktop Steam

Quoting: MayeulC
Quoting: rcritI found it amusing that the three intro screens for the new configuration tool demonstrate using a Steam Deck. It made my Steam controller jealous that it didn't have its own screen.
That makes me wonder, will they facilitate the use of a steam deck as a "simple" controller at some point? Connected via USB or network. It could also be more advanced and show stuff like inventories on-screen, or contextual (action layers) actions.
Interesting but unlikely. Nothing in recent code changes has indicated of that sort and it would likely be a huge pita to do at a level of quality valve would tolerate.
But it looks like we're getting this interface as a replacement to big picture mode sometime in the near future going by all the changes valve made...that broke decky :(

Steam Deck plugin system Decky Loader solves some major issues in new update

 Very silly that this was all caused by infinitely injecting the notification subsystem... But very happy to get this patched up.

Decky Loader, get easy Steam Deck Plugins and make colours POP!

Quoting: TrainDocAlready commented on the youtube video but I'm happy to see Decky Loader here. I've been a small part of the many official and non official contributors these past few months while we toiled away. I joined the team right before the port to react spun up (that effort was lead by Johnny and AAGaming) and I worked on the uploading to the store CI, the wiki along with WerWolv and various odds and ends, mostly focus coordinating effort.

If y'all have any questions please feel free.
I start work pretty early so I might not get to them until later.
tl;dr

Gamescope crashes and laggy QAM should now be a thing of the past. Notifications patching was being done pretty much everytime the UI was being interacted with, rather than just when it was needed. Also you can now back out of plugins using the B button as you might expect with the rest of the deck UI!

Also, a lot of people are bringing up the instability that decky introduces to the deck due to bugs in gamescope, xwayland and that stack.

Until these PRs are merged, we're pretty much tied up and are looking to mitigate the issue as much as we can since we don't control the code where the issue(s) are occuring.

Quoting: sciroccoUnable to get it to work on holoiso for some reason the icon to access it never shows up in gamepadui.
We don't support holoiso atm. We'd like to but we can't split our focus too much.

NVIDIA Linux driver 515.76 is out, as is Mesa 22.2 for AMD / Intel

Because AMD priorities are to serve your needs?
Actions speak far louder than words, and AMD has committed a lot of code and continues to do so.
