Epic Games CEO says a clear No to Fortnite on Steam Deck

It's unfortunate, but he does have a point. I'm wondering how feasible it would be for a game to only support certain kernel builds, such as the ones major distributions build, and some community kernels such as Zen and Xanmod.
Not that Epic Games would bother putting in that amount of elbow grease for us of course, but I'm curious if it'd work regardless.

Stadia continues the slow downward spiral

It's quite bittersweet.

Egoistically, I do take great glee in watching Google's stuff crash and burn. I despise Google, I've been anti-Stadia from the get-go; it all just seems absurd. Especially Stadia Pro, buy games individually AND pay monthly? Sure you do that on Xbox and PlayStation as well, but this time you don't have any right to even download your game files and keep them locally, no guarantee that the service will stay online and let you play your purchased games. You aren't entitled to them at all, good gosh!

Now I'm not really a fan of streaming services anyways, and when I do stream games to a device (such as my Nintendo Switch with Ubuntu), I use my own computer as a host so I can (mostly) be in complete control.

But if, as you say, Stadia really is a good way for people on low-cost devices to enjoy a hassle-free spit of video games, that is truly a shame. I certainly hope someone can come up with a more elegant solution that'll enable this kind of entry point to playing games, and that isn't as unstable as the other services you mentioned.

Lutris game manager adds support for Origin integration

Stellar, hopefully we can get together and make Lutris installers for EA games using the EA App instead of Origin, as it works much better in Wine. I believe using the EA App instead of Origin fixed my BF4 stutter issues.

Quoting: Arthur...but one feature I really wish they could pull from Origin is the friends list and being able to join a game directly from it.
Try using the EA App [External Link] instead, I can join my friends and use the overlay in Battlefield 4 using it. Install the EA App in your prefix using a fork such as Wine-GE or Wine-Lutris, and once logged in, you can "migrate" your game by picking its existing install location when "installing" it.

Send help as I have discovered Bloons TD 6

Used to play the original Bloons TD flash game as a kiddo, great fun!
If anyone is looking for a different spin on the tower defense genre, check out the Anomaly series. Anomaly: Warzone Earth [External Link] is my favourite "tower attack" game by far, as in you control a soldier and deploy attackers in real time. You might recognize the developers, they're currently making Frostpunk 2. It also has a native Linux version, however the last Anomaly game, Anomaly Defenders, does not..

Seems no hope for Insurgency: Sandstorm on Steam Deck / Linux

A bummer, but I understand their situation; and respect it. Love Insurgency to bits and hope that they will have this capacity in the future somehow

Experimental Vulkan support is here for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
17 Dec 2021 at 3:17 pm UTC

Quoting: kon14The thing is, they already did just that with Source2! They just never bothered to update any of their pre-Dota2 games to use it and just opted to backport certain Source2 features instead.
Yeah, you're right; I should have acknowledged the fact Vulkan is in use on Source 2. I forget this as I only played one Source 2 game, haha

Quoting: ridgeI really dislike how Valve relies so much on DXVK, but on the other hand I can acknowledge that adding native Vulkan to the Source engine would proooobably be a big undertaking in lots of old spaghetti code.... maybe, I don't know.

But from a "stupid user who doesn't know what the Source engine source code looks like" point of view, I really wish they could just implement Vulkan natively.
Well they did LITERALLY fund DXVK development didn't they?

To me that's no different than them funding and using SDL.

And our community does complain about reinventing the wheel often enough -- IIUC their DXVK bindings are literally paper-thin taking optimized functions and simply redirecting them to the appropriate DXVK function.

Edit: Another argument for their DXVK bindings is that their internal DX functions are already highly optimized, when a parallel code is created it's often not as optimized in the sense that it doesn't get as much time, care, testing, eyeballs, etc...
Great points that I didn't consider, makes sense to me. Thank you
