Introversion classic Darwinia gets remastered with better Steam Deck support

Woah, neat. Darwinia was one of the first indie games I played way back, and I recently picked it up on GOG a few days ago. What odd timing, looking forward to trying it again!

Hear! I was half-expecting this article, and I couldn't agree more. Let us all mark February 25th on our calendars 😄

(Maybe the Norwegian localization of the day could be "Game on Linux Day")

Valve updates Portal to improve Steam Deck performance

Quoting: soulsourceI cannot imagine that Portal would have performance problems on the SteamDeck when using OpenGL. Is using Vulkan just a battery usage optimization?
AFAIK, before it was updated to use Vulkan, it was using ToGL; Direct3D to OpenGL layer.
I don't think it stuttered as much with ToGL, but performance and battery life should be improved with Vulkan as long as the shader cache is built. Basically a necessary evil, and now that the shaders can be built before the game is launched, it's just a big win win.

This looks fantastic! When I had an Nvidia GPU, I was using the same framebuffer capture patch Corben posted above, and it worked wonders; but this app looks so much simpler and is definitely a much needed utility for capturing from an Nvidia GPU, OBS is powerful but a lot of people rarely need 90% of what it can offer. It's like slicing cheese with a chainsaw.
Hopefully AMD support works out so I can use it myself :)

Sorry Arch (EndeavourOS), it's not working out any more and hello Fedora

As an Arch user on all my devices (except the Pi). Yeah. Yeah I don't blame you one bit. I haven't experienced any breakage with my hardware but I keep reading about it and other issues that can occur, so while I do love Arch, it kind of feels like a minefield at times even for me. Fedora's a great choice! I tried it on a laptop just over a week ago and I'm a big fan, packages are relatively up to date and it's so simple to set up. A bit bloated out of the box, for my tastes, but that's just nitpicking really, so I'm definitely recommending Fedora KDE or Mint to anyone who might ask me what their "first distro" should be.

Nice! Always cool to see the updates coming from the Mint team, more user-friendliness in the Linux space goes such a long way.

GPD are getting quite desperate against the Steam Deck

That's somewhat surprising actually, been vaguely interested in GPD devices for a while. But now? Not so much anymore.

NVIDIA working with Valve to get Gamescope working on their drivers

This is wonderful news. I still intend to change back to an AMD GPU (I mean I would even if I didn't use a Linux distro lol), but this will be of great use to me while I wait, and especially those who intend to stick with their Nvidia GPUs.
