Quoting: slaapliedjeThen you get things like ScummVM which is an interpreter of the original data files, so sort of fits in with what Wine is, but not so much as a compatibility layer as it is like python/perl where it just interprets code.More like a collection of game engines [External Link] with some shared bits and a launcher UI. Some of the engines are based on original, freed up source code and others reverse engineered. Not much like Wine after all. :)

Quoting: FurorI had to reinstall all the itch.io games and apps again, as the new version didn't recognize the previous installed ones. The install folder naming seems to have changed, and even renaming the old folders doesn't seem to be enough. Not a big problem for me, aside from having to do some manual cleanup.
Quoting: FurorAt least now I have an icon in the system tray.I had a nice icon in the system tray with the old version as well. I'm not a big fan of the new red square actually.

Quoting: KelsHoly crap, I install and after entering my email and pass I have to go through FOUR captchas. That's a bit excessive.Funny. I got none at all.
Actually I went through seven because I had a typo when I entered my email. So three captchas the first time and four the next. I would say one is unnecessary and two is too much. This many is ridiculous.
An interview with the developer of DXVK, part of what makes Valve's Steam Play tick

The official recommendation is to disable nvapi and nvapi64 for the prefix in winecfg, and that should be enough. EDIT: Nevermind.

Quoting: PhlebiacIs it so that it doesn't try to run some Nvidia-specific code, like GameWorks/HairWorks/PhysX/<lockin-of-the-month>?Can it really be called lockin if it doesn't actually lock you in? :)
Quoting: johndoeAs far as I know nvapi is not implemented in wine 3.7 (also Proton) but in higher versions of wine. There's a stub implementation of nvapi in wine-staging. It apparently enables physx, but nothing else. Of course this is enough for many games.
Quoting: johndoeThe workaround is to spoof AMD to prevent this.
The new CrossCode trailer shows off some seriously good action

But seriously, the game has been on my wishlist for ages. It looks and sounds like an enjoyable ARPG. The pace looks a bit scary, but I hope it's just the way the trailer has been cut together.

What's interesting, is that Lea cannot speak at all! What? Silent protagonist in a game? What will they think of next! ;)

Just bear in mind that when it comes to Dying Light and glibc, others have tried and failed. I hope you have better luck.

Quoting: F.UltraAnyone that knows what kind of magic that Steam adds when running games? I've tried to rename "DyingLightGame" to "DyingLightGame.exe" and then created a small shell script named "DyingLightGame" that just did "./DyingLightGame.exe" as a preparation for doing glibc preload but the game refused to start even with such a basic script (it couldn't find the steam overlay I think it complained about) so it looks like Steam does more than just execute the binary. No need for custom scripts. You can add your LD_PRELOAD magic to the game's launch options. Right click the game in your library, select "Properties" -> "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS...":
LD_PRELOAD=path_to_lib.so %command%Just bear in mind that when it comes to Dying Light and glibc, others have tried and failed. I hope you have better luck.
A multi-vendor extension for transform feedback in Vulkan is being worked on to help DXVK and others

Quoting: edoSo after this basically all games (except games with weird drm) will work. There are many other reasons games do not work with Wine. This will help dxvk support several popular games which is nice, but don't expect too much. You can find some more information here [External Link].
A writer for Forbes has been talking about the positives of switching to Linux

I'm not one to preach free software or anything else really, but I don't see how your views are more pragmatic than the ones you condemn. Convenient for you maybe, but that's hardly the same thing.

Quoting: ArthurI'm a pragmatist myself, and I play proprietary games including on Windows, but unlike many Linux users I don't go around preaching free software while carving out exceptions for myself, like running old or new proprietary games natively or in emulators or compatibility layers which often come with issues. If you want to run proprietary software, surely it's better to do it on a platform you trust? This is not math and two negatives do not make a positive.

I already own Wasteland 2 and Tides of Numenera, and although Shadow Tactics looks great, I had to go for the lowest tier this time. AER and Oxenfree seem well worth the 0.90€.
I have no use for the Unity assets. If anyone wants them, just shoot me a PM.
