The Talos Principle stable build updated, includes the latest improvements for Vulkan (updated)

Quoting: tuubiI never even found a way to install 284152, and the build that works for you (277544) crashes for me with Vulkan. Works fine with OpenGL though.
This update was normal one. Now it seems removed, or versions not shown correctly. I change update to beta/previous version ... game download files and update ... byt in-game version shown is the same 277544.

Also with Vulkan API, game load much faster.
You're right. Switching to the "previousversion" branch stops the crashing on Vulkan for me as well, even though the main menu build number does not change. I don't see much of a difference in loading times, maybe because the game's installed on an SSD. Shame about the tearing.

EDIT: I spoke too soon. Got a hard freeze right after I wrote this. Oh well, back to OpenGL for now.

Quoting: tuubiDid someone actually get build 284152 installed on their Linux system? All I seem to get is 277544, on the publicbeta branch as well. Is 284152 Windows only or something?

Just curious as 277544 freezes after a minute or two of gameplay with the Vulkan renderer on my system. I thought I'd try the latest build. Before crashing the game runs much smoother on Vulkan, although it seems V-Sync doesn't work and the tearing is quite annoying.
Did you read my previous post?
Sure I did. That's why I asked.

Quoting: deathxxxWith lastest Update 284152, the game and whole system is crashed after 20-30min gameplay.
Im forced to switch back to previous patch.

All of the above suggestions have been made before, apart from @DamonLinuxPL's. My take on these:

Quoting: Doc AngeloUnder "Main gaming machine" you can choose between Desktop, Laptop and Sofa-PC. I think "Desktop with optional TV connection" and "Laptop with optional TV connection" should be added to that list.
Any laptop and desktop can be connected to a TV screen. That doesn't really give useful information about the hardware. I think if you mainly play with a controller sitting in front of the TV, you should probably pick Sofa-PC as your main gaming machine. Unless you mean streaming from a Windows host, in which case it's not relevant.

Quoting: Blauer_HungerPlease add "Do you use a virtual machine for gaming?" and the options "No", "Yes", "Yes, with dedicated graphics card".
Quoting: niarbehtYou should consider getting a "passthrough VM" option in place/in addition of/to dual-boot.
These are just alternate ways to play games on Windows (assuming you don't mean running a different Linux distro in a VM), so not that useful info to collect in a Linux gaming survey. Maybe combine them into "Do you play games on a different operating system by dual booting or in a virtual machine". I dunno.

Quoting: Blauer_HungerI'd also like to see clickable CPU and GPU types with links to ark.intel.com, products.amd.com and nvidia.com in "View PC info" next to a comment. A nice feature would also be a text field for the Motherboard.
Forcing users to choose an exact CPU/GPU model is a bit overkill and would make filling the form a bit cumbersome. The harder this is, the less people will bother filling it. I guess it could be an optional way to fill the text field. The MB model would be useful if this data was for technical support or benchmark purposes, but it's not so maybe not.

Quoting: MikeHow often would you recommend updating?
Just make sure your info is up to date, and you won't have to worry about it. Maybe hit the update button every time you see one of these reminders even if nothing's changed.

Quoting: Ryblade@tuubi:

Sorry to have to nit-pick about one point, but I gotta inform you, not everyone who uses Linux does so by choice. Many people in first world nations, yes, but certainly not everyone.
I thought I said "we", not "everyone". But duly noted, and apologies offered to anyone I might have offended.

Isn't it great though that the only operating system available to these unfortunate souls happens to be the best one as well? Silver lining and all that.

Happy Christmas or whatever you happen to celebrate, fellow penguins!

I'll be working my ass off, but I'm sure I'll manage to somehow eat way too much chocolate anyway. It's not a real Christmas without the nausea.

Quoting: KeyrockLet's begin with the airing of grievances. I have a lot of bones to pick with you people. :D
Defensive (fetal) position assumed, let it rip.

I used puppy-eyes on the wife and it was super effective. Rocket League is mine as well! :)

Too bad I'll never find the spare time to actually become good at it.

Quoting: Joeyboots80I disagree that "they are just doing business" when they (devs) are purposely ignoring a segment of their customer base and allowing trolls to troll freely against these folks whilst banning people who retaliate in response to said trolling by Windows "fanboys" or MS shills.
Of course they ignore Linux on purpose. Just like they ignore Sailfish OS in the mobile space. They deem the market share too small to matter. In our case it might be based on outdated data, but it's hardly out of malice.

The way they handle communication and the various Internet forums is another thing. I don't know if they simply don't follow the Steam forums or if they just don't have control over them. I doubt any of these developers actively promote anti-linux trolling, even if they don't do much to work against it.

Quoting: Joeyboots80The market is indeed changing, but not in the way you say. The market has always been the way you describe. Business and how it's conducted hasn't changed at all. Since when has it NOT been about evaluating risk for corporations when producing content or products for sale? The bottom line is still King. I get that.
What I meant was that Linux has quite recently become a financially viable part of the gaming market, not that the nature of the market itself is changing.

Bagged a couple of gifts for nephews, and spent the rest of my PayPal balance on The Talos Principle and Mad Max. That's two off my wishlist, and at least one I already know I'll enjoy. :)
