Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and Stunt Island are now available for Linux on GOG

Quoting: meggermanWill they play at 1440p fullscreen ? I imagine that they are 4:3 but are they at least fullscreen top to bottom on a 16:9 monitor ?
I don't see why not? Both ScummVM and DOSBox support scaling, but surely your monitor can switch to common lower resolution modes as well.

Wine Staging updated, allows you to play DOOM on Linux

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoWhat means weiner? Google traslator doesn't recognize it.
He means wiener. You know, the delicious sausage. Also a derogatory term. "Weiner" is a very common misspelling.

Quoting: Luke_NukemThe Die-Hard. These gamers won't buy unless there is a proper port or official support.
There's nothing die-hard about wanting official support for a product I purchase. It's just common sense.

Civ VI Steam forum mods banning users for expressing Linux support

Quoting: Joeyboots80I am not so sure that Firaxis is "anti-Linux, but I will tell you I am sick and tired of the apathy shown towards our community by AAA pubs/devs in regards to ports or support for ports, a few obvious exceptions notwithstanding. Being marginalized isn't fun, and when you speak out about this neglect or about moderators on forums/threads favoring Windows users you're labeled "toxic".
As I wrote above, we chose to use Linux. And Linux really is small enough to make many developers indifferent. Not to us, but the system we use. That's not apathy and they're not marginalizing anything, they're just doing business.

The market is changing, like this market always is, but for now developers might simply decide that instead of porting to a system that might or might not make them money, the safe bet is to put those pennies (and those man-hours if this would be done internally) towards their next big seller on larger platforms. They might not be moving with the times here, but that's business inertia for you.

So, like I wrote in my previous comment, focus on Linux "evangelism" and keep voting with your wallet to make us noticed. Playing the martyr might not be toxic, but it sure as hell is annoying. Play with the trolls and other woodland creatures if you feel that's useful, but bashing developers themselves for not being adventurous enough to be among the first few to support Linux is hardly productive.

EDIT: Some weird English annihilated. (Language, not people.)

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the seemingly common sentiment that being a Linux user is somehow comparable to being a racial or sexual minority in a hostile society. Contrary to these Linux is a choice. It's good as far as choices go, but we all know it's not yet a popular one.

The underdog mentality is appealing--or at least easy to slip into--but won't help us get anywhere. The best it can do is make us seen and heard, but the worst it can do and indeed has done is give us a reputation as whiny and self-important elitists. Just like a few obnoxious trolls make some of you proclaim all Windows users are like that.

Yes, we have the right not to buy games not available on our OS. What we don't have is the right to expect every developer to cater to our whims. Indifference does not always equal hate. We've got a lot of work ahead us before our tiny platform is important enough to warrant your expectations. The technical stuff is shaping up well, but that's just one step towards the goal.

Please be active and enthusiastic about Linux, but don't throw tantrums when things don't go our way. If you get wrongful treatment from volunteer moderators on a forum, the only productive choice is to report them to the developer. Even a justified shitstorm always results in a stinking mess.

Mad Max released for Linux, port report and review available

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoI know is a necro thread but..
Mad Max is super cheap right now on Bundlestars.

Too bad Bundle Stars keys register as Windows sales, no matter what platform you play on. And besides, Steam's Winter Sale starts in a couple of days, I wouldn't be surprised if Mad Max was included and just as cheap. I can wait.

BallisticNG, a racer inspired by Wipeout has unstable builds for Linux on Steam
18 Dec 2016 at 10:29 am UTC

Quoting: MightyTrollzorI am aware that this is not violating any copyright law (as long as sony doesn't patent any game mechanics of the wipeout series) but it wouldn't be the first time a publisher claims rights to some independent artists work, getting the artist to remove said work because they can't afford a lawsuit from a publisher which in turn has more than enough money for a ton of lawyers and legal expenses.
Sadly this is true. Having been at the receiving end of a ridiculous trademark claim (thankfully cleared with a single response from our own lawyer, "only" costing us a couple of hundred euros), I know the system is broken. I don't think you can actually patent game mechanics however.

The Other 99, an UE4 single-player action & survival game is waiting on fixes from Epic for a Linux version
17 Dec 2016 at 2:41 pm UTC

Quoting: SketchStickI was under the impression that Epic Games does very little work on Unreal Engine's Linux support. That the vast majority of fixes were contributed by the community? If that's the case, I don't think waiting on them is going to help much.
This might be a general bug related to their OpenGL backend, not something Linux specific. These backends are written and supported by Epic themselves I think.

Site update: Notification system updated
17 Dec 2016 at 2:35 pm UTC

Great stuff. The notification system is shaping up nicely.

I do think it's a bit unnecessary to get two notifications every time I'm quoted. One for the quote and another for the reply if I'm subscribed to the thread. (I usually am.)

Could you prevent the reply notification to any user who was quoted, as they've already been notified?

BallisticNG, a racer inspired by Wipeout has unstable builds for Linux on Steam
17 Dec 2016 at 10:22 am UTC

Quoting: MightyTrollzorIt is really fun if you like Wipeout since it plays exactly the same as the old wipeout titles. I hope this game won't get copyright striked by sony now that it is on steam
Very similar or even pretty much exactly the same gameplay isn't a copyright violation, as long as no art or IP is copied directly from the original. I understand all art, tracks, names and such are original in this game.
