DoomRL or 'DRL' as it's now called has gone open source

@Guppy: I know Hell is a later invention or import into the Christian faith (as if that matters, all "living" religions change all the time), but that Hel/Hell connection seems a bit far fetched. There's a "hell" of some sort in many if not most ancient religions and mythologies.

I should probably stay out of this as I'm not the least bit religious, but I'm genuinely interested in the psychology of religion and superstition in general. No offense intended!

Looks like hit adventure game 'Owlboy' really is coming to Linux, ported by Ethan Lee

The game looks awesome, but I thought this was already confirmed? Who cares, it's coming and I'm happy.

Quoting: salitynamAdd hashtag EthanLee maybe?
They're just tags, no hash involved. :)

The developers of 'EVERSPACE' are still working on the Linux version, seeking help from Epic Games

Quoting: ShmerlThere is this: https://github.com/KhronosGroup/glslang/issues/362 [External Link] but it's not complete yet.
I'm pretty sure versions of glslang are used in some form or another by all of the big engines to do the shader conversion. This is very much work in progress still, as there seem to be commits going in for HLSL support every week. Probably to enable their reference SPIR-V compiler to consume HLSL, but equally useful for GLSL output.

Liam, a good while ago you wrote "Don't be a shit" to welcome a known Linux basher to your site. I'd like to formally repropose making that the first and most important rule for all members of the GOL community. In fact, that would pretty much make all the other rules redundant.

Khronos are working on an open standard for VR, Valve will use it

I'm still not interested in VR in its current form(s), but industry-wide standards are pretty much always better than multiple competing solutions. Good going Khronos (and Valve).

A minority of a minority
According to this page [External Link], in 1999 there were 341M "first language" English speakers, and 322 to 358M "first language" Spanish speakers… Not exactly a minority!
It's still accurate to say it's a subset of the tiny Linux subset of gamers. If you need a non-English localization to enjoy a game, you've got less choice than if you didn't. This is just an objective observation, don't take this as evidence of a bias.

Quoting: tuubiI'm not missing anything. I had my fill of this stuff back in the 8-bit era. :)
You are missing the new stuff though :P
I can live with that. The first computer game tunes I ever actually enjoyed were on the Amiga. Absolutely no nostalgia for the older stuff.

The circuit building simulator 'SHENZHEN I/O' gets 'overwhelmingly positive' reviews from Steam users

I can see TIS-100 having a learning curve, but Infinifactory is very different and very accessible. I prefer TIS-100 myself, though. The manual wasn't that hard to grok, but some understanding of basic programming concepts definitely helps. And the later levels really do test your brain as well as your patience.

Like Eike said, if you like puzzles, you'll probably enjoy Human Resource Machine. My wife does, and she's no programmer, or even a hard-core puzzle enthusiast. I haven't yet bought SHENZHEN I/O but I'm sure I'll love it when I finally do. Currently it occupies a comfortable spot in the top three on my Steam wishlist.

They've got an over-enthusiastic spam filter I guess. Are you sure you didn't say you were a Nigerian prince and you had a nice business opportunity to discuss?

Quoting: KeyrockI've been playing this for about a week and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. If you've ever played Myst then you know what to expect; there are strange machines and items that you need to figure out on your own how they work and what their purpose is. There are hints for all the puzzles scattered about but they're often hidden and even when the hints are out in the open you need to figure out on your own what they mean and which puzzle they correspond to.
Thanks for the warning! ;)
Thanks for the recommendation! ;)

(Seriously, sounds really good.)
