Just got a rather lacklustre answer from an Asus tech to my (half serious) query about the reported problems with the Strix 960. Here's an excerpt.

I guess "unlikely" is something, although "impossible" would have been more reassuring. :)

Just keep in mind that the free photo sites might have licenses that are incompatible with Creative Commons BY-4.0 and/or CC0, thus preventing their use in this competition. But that should be easy to check if you remember where you got them.

Maybe, or maybe this simply fixed a Windows-specific problem. Doesn't really say anything about the implied games (if any) being Windows only, although I'm sure we will see Windows-exclusive Vulkan games.

I have one of those Asus Strix cards, and so does my nephew. My understanding is that any decent mobo already covers for this possibility with components well above the spec, but it's indeed a concern for those interested in overclocking. I'm not, so I should be okay. I did send a technical support query to Asus though, asking if this has been addressed in later revisions of the card and also what this means in practice. It'll be interesting to see what they answer.

I used to play Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies so much on the Amiga in the mid-nineties that I'm still pretty much burned out on pinball. In fact most of my family was hooked on them.

Thanks for the wall of text, captain obvious. ;) But this isn't what I was arguing against, and I certainly wasn't speaking of a hypothetical popular SteamOS of days to come. I was simply stating my firm belief that Linux-exclusive games aren't the right way to market Linux as a gaming OS today, and also protesting Kyrottimus's use of the word "force" I guess. Obviously it often makes financial sense to target the largest or otherwise most profitable segment of the market and any work towards additional platforms will yield smaller returns. True, but beside the point.

Anyway, I'd argue that we do indeed need entertainment, but no single game is important enough to force us into anything, and even if it was, forcing people to try Linux is not the right way to go about it.

Though I agree with your sentiment, a lot of people will buy a console to play a certain game.

True, but they do not need the game, and they are not forced to buy anything.
