MonoGame plan to create a non-profit foundation to support development

Quoting: ElectricPrismThe name Mono hasn't aged well, I could imagine CoronaGame wouldnt be too popular either. Corona Beer sales probably aren't too hot either.

I'll beat the dead horse a little too -- stigmatized names like Gimp are going to sound offputting to donors. This isn't hard.

I wish them well with their efforts to transform and safeguard their ethos and values.
Hmm... What's wrong with 'mono'?
eli5; It's another name for herpes
Mono is short for mononucleosis, which has no connection to herpes. Maybe you made that leap because people call it "the kissing disease". In any case, even though I spent a few days in a hospital bed once because mononucleosis made my throat hurt so much I couldn't swallow anything at all, that's hardly the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the word "mono".

I can't find it now, but I recently read a long blog post by a guy "flibijibito" or something like that who I understand is an absolute guru in Linux game tech.
That's Flibitijibibo [External Link] aka Ethan Lee. He's the author of FNA and a very prolific game porter. He definitely knows what he's talking about.

Quoting: EduAAACool, don't really understand how this helps Linux since game has to be already available for Linux but hope he hmmm, improves Steam Deck compatibility somehow?
Maybe you missed this bit in the article: "...if developers don't have one Lee will make one for them." Meaning that he's willing to work on any game, not just ones that are already available for Linux.

There's also a bunch of old Linux releases that don't work on modern distributions out of the box for various reasons.

Quoting: razing32Not to be a stick in the mud ... BUT ... why oh WHY do they always have to be "comedy"
I get Monkey Island was a classic and damn good , but does every game need comedy in it ?
I'd love to play a point and click horror or sci-fi , just straight up , no quips or sarcasm/pop culture references.
You're in luck: There's plenty of non-comedy point-and-click adventures around.

Check GOG.com's selection [External Link] for a good few. That list shows their point-and-clicks, but you can additionally filter by horror or sci-fi/science on the left.

Quoting: syxbitI just can't get into point and click games without voice acting. Good voice acting is vital IMHO.
I suppose the fact that I played adventure games like this for years before voice acting in games became even technically feasible makes it easier to accept the silence for me. I guess it could have been done passably well in the 16bit era, but I don't even want to imagine how many more floppies something like Monkey Island 2 on the Amiga 500 would have needed with actual digitized voice samples. Eleven (or twelve?) "diskettes" was plenty already.

The obvious reason low-budget indies like this often don't have voices is that hiring voice talent costs money. (Unless the developers happen to be talented comedians who can do the voices themselves, like Alasdair Beckett-King did for the remaster of Nelly Cootalot [External Link].)

Went on a bit of a ramble there, sorry. I'm not disputing the fact that the lack of voice acting does limit the potential audience.

Can't help but see a Blackwell influence for that ghost gimmick, but I don't mind. I'll always have a soft spot for traditional comedy point-and-clicks.

Quoting: clatterfordslimNice to see they have Angelina Jolie's face back as Lara.
I'm sure Jolie was chosen for the role because she looked like the character, but I think five Tomb Raider games had come out before they made the first movie. Did they actually use her face in some sequel?

Murtop is a retro fusion of Dig Dug meets Bomberman

The trailer really does evoke some traumatic memories of dig dug. The style is spot on. I bet I'd be very bad at this one as well.

Until you said that I never knew.......
I thought she just looked like bomberman! Aren't avatar images supposed to be accurate representations of us? I feel deceived...

(I totally look like a happy penguin. Ask anyone!)

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI don't use it but I'm glad it exists, 'cause if odd things happen with Ubuntu I could end up still able to use Mint thanks to its existence.
Or I mean you could just install Debian and pick Cinnamon during install...
That would be fine if Mint simply slapped a different DE on Ubuntu/Debian and called it a day. Would be a bit silly if they did, don't you think?
Honest question; what do they do different that would make me want to switch to Mint DE over just Debian? Debian has a much more flexible installer (still one of the best if you need software raid, or anything funky). These days it's just a matter of install, maybe run 'apt install nvidia-driver' and be done with it. My last few installs (that were non-nvidia) just worked out of the box with all drivers / hardware detected and is rock solid.
Maybe you're right, or wrong, I don't know exactly what Mint does or not (but I don't think it's just "that")...
But the thing you seem to forget is that Purple Library Guy don't like much tech things, as he said about it many times, so I'm sure just install Mint (classic or Debian Edition) is simpler for him than to install Debian.
It's not just non-techy people who like Mint. I'm a computer nerd since before it was cool, with well over two decades on Linux now, and Mint serves me very well at home and at work. It's a polished distro with an out-of-the-box desktop experience that requires very little tweaking to suit my tastes and use cases.

If that makes you doubt my Linux chops, maybe it helps if I tell you that I ran Gentoo for a couple of years as my daily driver back when it was relatively new and anything but user friendly. Just getting things up and running took a couple of days of bootstrapping, configuring and compiling. Back then, I had fun doing that and I learned a lot in the process.

But these days I have better things to do than fiddle with my systems. You know, like playing games or getting work done. Obviously your mileage may vary. We've all got our preferences and priorities.
