Quoting: WorMzyGenuinely disappointed with this one. Do they go into any detail anywhere about why they're not doing a Linux release?
3rd party studios under Paradox as the publisher almost never do Native Linux. Quite different to Paradox Development Studios, so this is actually pretty normal. They also publish games from Iceflake Studios, Triumph Studios, Romero Games, Squeaky Wheel Studio Inc and so on all that don't do Native Linux.
Yeah, but still--they start from a base that supports native Linux; seems like it must have almost taken deliberate effort to make it stop working.
It might still work on Linux for all we know. Could be they're simply not building and testing on Linux.

Quoting: GuestIt's unlikely the small form factor of a steam machine will include better hardware.
That strikes me as likely to be inaccurate. All hypothetical, but look--the Deck is intended for playing games on its small screen, and it has the hardware capable of doing that.

Nobody's going to launch a machine intended for playing games on large screens which is not capable of playing games on large screens.
Compare the size of the old steam machines.
Which ones?
The most visible ones like the Alienware Alpha and Zotac's NEN were pretty tiny, but they were powerful enough to run any game from 2014 at a decent resolution. They sported something like Nvidia's GTX 860 / 960 and a mid tier Intel core CPU, which is close to what I had in my own full size computer at that time. Still, they were a lot larger than a handheld like the Deck.

Don't know how relevant that is though. Other brands sold--or at least advertised--larger and more powerful Steam Machines.

Quoting: tuubiI prefer to play using a gamepad these days. My sofa/TV gaming setup makes keyboard and mouse gaming a bit awkward and uncomfortable.
This is why we need a Steam Controller 2.
Well, maybe?

I have reservations, seeing as I never could get used to the original Steam Controller.

[...] with plenty of indie teams having a growing list of titles they no longer worked on directly that could benefit from a little TLC.
Can someone please explain to me what does TLC stand for?
It means "Tender Loving Care".
Unless Liam was referring to his favourite girl group from the nineties.

Nothing easier. Roll of masking tape, done.
Or an actual brick to smash the screen.

Quoting: 14If I was developing a game, I would think about it honestly. No cut for early launch period, and then smaller cut than Steam takes after that.
Yes, but a smaller cut of what? How much visibility and how many sales would you give up on by limiting yourself to a single storefront? Would you sell >30% more copies on Steam in the first year?

Hard to say, but we can't simplify the problem by assuming that all the stores are equal and interchangeable. You might just end up with a bigger piece of a significantly smaller pie.
I get that. But I also get that some content creators may want Steam to have less grip on the market so that Epic's terms are more attractive in the short-term as well as strategically.

I will again point out Audible. I buy audio books on Libro.fm for DRM-free but also for matter of principle against Audible's author profits terms. What if zero authors were willing to sell on Libro.fm? There would be no threat to Audible. I would be a hypocrite to say game developers should only go for maximum profits (Steam) but authors should avoid Audible.

Even though Steam treats me better than Epic store, I understand how difficult it is for other companies to take bites out of the monopoly. That is my main point, and it applies to any company that has an iron market grip, whether I like them (Valve) or not (Audible).
Sure. I'm no fan of monopolies either. That's part of the reason I buy games on GOG and Itch as well. But EGS with their anti-consumer exclusivity deals and complete lack of Linux support isn't gaining my custom any time soon. In general, you don't fix a less-than-perfect status quo by supporting a blatantly worse outsider.

Deimos Games shutting, making Helium Rain and Astral Shipwright free to play

Quoting: ShmerlSo far it's not free on GOG and itch.io, but I suppose the developer just didn't get to changing that yet:

I guess you missed the last sentence of the article:

They both go free to play on September 1st.
