Steam Deck gets a bunch more Keyboard tweaks
2 Apr 2022 at 12:07 pm UTC Likes: 2

Quoting: CybolicFully game-themeable is another option, but that's probably overkill.
Keyboard themes can be bought using the Steam Points shop. Steam points also serve to buy backgrounds, emotes and avatars by game. So indeed it might be feasible for each game to create a custom full theme and sell it in the near future. (hopefully)

Along the Edge gets some nice improvements to be Steam Deck ready
26 Mar 2022 at 8:55 am UTC

Interesting, I never played any of their games but I definatively like the style.

Also, checking the other games by that dev/publisher they applied that "Ready for the Steam Deck!" treatment for their other games too (links to the patch notes):

- Seers Isle [External Link]
- Across the Grooves [External Link]

Both with the same notes:
- Dynamic Cloud Save support,
- Support of Xbox One / Xbox Series controller icons on all platforms,
- Overall performance optimizations and under the hood upgrades,
- Various bug fixes.

Microsoft announce Xbox Cloud Gaming for Steam Deck with Edge (Beta)

Quoting: Liam DaweAdded an extra link for a new video, doing the same method to get Stadia working perfectly: https://youtu.be/pRGP_MXy2Wc [External Link]
Nice! Thanks for the video showing Stadia working well too, Liam.

I love playing The Elder Scrolls Online on my TV via Stadia so this will be a no brainer for me once I get a hand on one of those decks (less loading times, no constant updatings, full gamepad controls, not wasting ~70gb for it).

itch.io has another huge charity bundle, this one supports Ukraine

Interestingly, like the other time, there is more stuff than just videogames: including game assets and pen and paper roleplaying games.

There an odd one I've been on the fence for months: Delve [External Link] which seems to be kind of a draw-it-yourself Dwarf Fortress solo game.

XCOM 2 gets a Free Weekend plus a MASSIVE discount
12 Feb 2022 at 4:59 pm UTC Likes: 2

Quoting: GuestDo you suggest to play XCOM1 or XCOM2 to someone with not much free time?
Thanks!
One other point, is that if you played (and enjoyed) the original XCOM UFO Defense / Enemy Unknown, the new XCOM1 has a few nods to the original one and therefore it is nice to see the design considerations whenever a new enemy (always different in some way) is introduced. So from that (meta) perspective XCOM1 is a joy to play, even though the 2nd is more mature.

Game devs don't seem convinced on the Steam Deck from the GDC 2022 survey

The Steam Deck is interesting, as any developer / publisher we've seen actually receive a devkit unit has been practically universally praising the device. Seeing is truly believing then.
It's called selection bias. Only developers interested in steamdeck try to get one and so they are more likely prise it. Ones who are more likely criticize it don't want it, so they don't have one.
I expect great device, but but this survey shows that our view can be influenced by the fact that we hear only positive news.
Thing here is those devs didn't buy any. The units simply poped up in their mailbox, courtesy of Valve Inc.

The bias here, is trying to figure out how many devs got it, and posted no evidence online!

Humble Bundle decides you need another launcher for parts of Humble Choice
14 Jan 2022 at 1:22 pm UTC Likes: 2

Quoting: AwesamLinuxAs long as Humble continues providing the monthly games as Steam keys, then I will probably continue subscribing and pausing/cancelling whenever needed.

But those that are looking for other legit bundle sites, I recommend taking a look at Fanatical and Indiegala. [...]
I would also consider Green man Gaming btw, even with the 20% Humble discount on top of the sales I sometimes get better prices in there. For example I consistently see better end prices for "The Elder Scrolls Online" DLCs and other Bethesda games during sales than the other mentioned stores.

Escape Simulator hits over $4M in gross sales

Quoting: EhvisDon't think anybody expected it to do this well. It's a pretty good game as far as escape rooms go, but I think it's the room editer/workshop support that make this game really appealing.
Indeed, but regarding the "room editer/workshop" it's most specially the timing for it. It was released soon after lunch, along with a big contest for TOP 10 rooms. It reached black friday right after that contest and the winter sales with a big number of workshop levels including and a bonus Christmas level right after new years eve...

So timing, and making good use of such timingm, pushed a critical role here too.

And of course, unlike others, it delivered.

Humble Bundle decides you need another launcher for parts of Humble Choice
12 Jan 2022 at 1:02 pm UTC

Quoting: 3zekielHmm one thing that confuses me, they say you will still be billed in dollar if you are on humble classic... But if there is only one tier, then what is the point of classic ? And why still in dollar ?
Honestly, in the last year, the only times I did not skip was because I forgot to. I kept my subscription for classic "Just in case", and because I thought I might grab the discount one month if there was a decent game I did not already have. And it never happened.
So, I guess I can just cancel now.
~

acording to the FAQ, the classics will still have the 20% discount.
The new account will start with 10% and increasing per subsequent renewal...

https://support.humblebundle.com/hc/en-us/articles/4411127626139
All active members of Humble Choice will receive up to a 20% discount on the Humble Store when the changes go live on February 1st. All new members will receive up to a 10% discount on the Humble Store, with a growing discount rate based on consecutive months unlocked, as seen below

Besides the app having both trove (DRM-free) and Humble Games Collection (presumely non drm-free) and beeing windows only, there another anoying thing for the pausers out there:

Still from the FAQ

Can I still pause? What is skipping?

Pausing a month has officially been renamed "Skip" to better reflect the functionality provided. Just like with pausing, you can choose to skip a single month of Humble Choice while maintaining your plan. Once the current month of Humble Choice concludes, your plan will continue as usual and bill for the following month unless skipped. **Skipping also resets your growing discount back to 10%** if a higher percentage has been reached.

(emphasis mine). So pausing a month you'll miss the 20% discount on the next months. It will then rise to 20% after 12 continous months without skipping...

Amazon hiring for Proton / Wine and Linux developers for streaming service Luna

Quoting: mphuZ
Quoting: Liam DaweI made a prediction / hope on a Valve streaming service back in 2018.
Sure. After all, streaming is the future.

New players like Google and Amazon have already entered here. Microsoft is also pulling up.

If Valve doesn't launch its streaming service in the next year or two, they may lose everything. And no Linux will save them. That's why I'm a little scared for Valve. I hope Gabe and Co know what they are doing and will not miss the moment.
I have no doubt they're thinking of something and have been steadily building the foundations. Whatever they build, it should capitalize on the users exisiting catalogue and work with 99,5% of it (where steam machines 1.0 failed).

You can already stream your Steam games from one device into the other. And with Nvidia Geforce NOW or Shadow you can already play a sizeable portion of your catalogue, even if your hardware could not.

I would hope, that if needed, they could lauch something by the time of a Steam Deck 2nd gen (with a cheaper stream only device tier). They also mentioned various other steam hardware/different takes on the deck on the horizon, and are also heavily invested on VR.

So I'm not currently scared, as they seem to be covering a lot of fronts. (VR, streaming, coop, chromebooks). Hopefully their proton/wine efforts also go into Box86 then they would also be covered if all world goes ARM)

But it is nice to see other players' also benefiting/contributing to the wine/proton ecossystem.

EDIT: Added Box86 paragraph.
