EA begins swapping out Origin for EA app on Steam
26 Oct 2022 at 1:11 pm UTC

Origin to the EA app on Steam, which could cause a few issues for Linux and Steam Deck with Proton.
What would cause issues, Origin or EA App? Or the conversion process? Or all of them?!
blank EA app screen that got stuck
Did you try resizing the window?

Also does anyone know if Apex Legends is affected? It doesn't have Origin in the first place.

Proton 7.0-5 is coming soon improving Steam Deck / Linux gaming

Quoting: MayeulCIs this a release from experimental? If so, the usual warning about it requiring Mesa 22.2 is required
For DX 9/10/11 apparently not, because this release is not using DXVK git master (based on v1.10.1) but v1.10.3. This also means I still need Proton Experimental for graphics pipeline library.

Probably Stadia v2 with Google's streaming tech and Valve's Proton. Pay a subscription and get to stream the games you own on Steam plus a predetermined aet of games.

Steam Deck Beta update tweaks notifications, boot video length upped to 30 seconds
13 Oct 2022 at 4:24 pm UTC

The problem with Steam Deck boot video is that it plays after boot is completed ie. you can "patch out" the boot loader and your boot time will decrease. Otherwise, PS1 intro is 20 secs but no one cares about that because it plays during boot.
Also Deck probably has long boot time because boot includes starting Steam which takes quite a bit.

Quoting: scaineHow is it that Android-based players, such as the Amazon FireTV boxes, which are based on Linux (the kernel), can play 4K streams from Netflix and Prime?
Widevine (the DRM) supports highest level protection in Android, but only if the device meets certain requirements. On Linux we only have lovest level which is software only. Just like Linux, a lot of Android devices are limited to low resolutions because they don't have necessary hardware.

Facepunch put out a fresh statement on Rust for Steam Deck / Linux
7 Oct 2022 at 1:09 pm UTC Likes: 2

IMO the problem with Rust is that Linux playerbase is tiny. I remember that they shared user stats where Windows was 200K, Mac was 1-2K and Linux was a shy 200. The ratio (%0.1) doesn't correlate with Steam stats (%1) so the playerbase is really tiny. Also they expect cheat makers to switch to Linux which makes everything worse.
Apparently they are still considering it, enough to switch to EOS EAC but still have doubts. Maybe a few more hundred thousand Steam Decks could resolve their doubts.

If cheating is bad as ever, I don't think Linux would make it worse:grin:
