Quoting: jensDoes anybody knows what gave the push for KDE?
I guess the desktop mode is meant to be used on a “desktop” ie. with a second, larger screen, mouse and keyboard etc. Plasma is more similar to Win compared to Gnome, so that might be the reason behind their choice.

So if it takes 30 secs from power to library on SteamOS, it would take a lot to boot Windows
Seriously, 30 secs is a bit long for linux and Steam combined.
PS: When I saw "verifying installation" I thought it verified the whole OS instead of Steam.

Quoting: denyasisHow do the DE based UI package managers work? Like are they separate from the system package manager, or do they send in generic command into the package manager? Or perhaps share a backend (like the database)?
KDE Discover and Gnome Software Center use an abstraction layer called PackageKit. PackageKit has implementations for each package manager ie. on Arch (based) it uses ALPM (Arch Linux Package Management library) to interact with system.

Quoting: jensCool progress within just 7 years!
I am tracking progress since only Sept 2021 and still it is amazing. (BattlEye and EAC got supported and now some borked top 10 games may be playable) When I saw Deck launch was on December February, I thought that Valve couldn’t make it ready in that time period but now... They were serious when they told “All your library will be on the Deck”. It looks like all Steam top 100 except PUBG: Battlegrounds (and perhaps Halo games and Naraka Bladepoint) will be playable on Linux in a few months.

Or I am too optimistic.

Quoting: chelobakaAre there any similar apps made with Qt? This modern GTK interface looks completely alien in KDE and I find it very inconvenient as well.

This might help.
