omg finally. I do video engineering work for my job, and valve's attention to video has always been abysmal. This helps a ton! Finally it's modernized. Responsive, transcoding tree, etc...

For the codec, I inspected it, and it looks like they're using vp9, which is good. It's open and royalty free unlike h265 hevc. I wish they would be using av1 instead of vp9, but hey, at least it's something.

I am very surprised they are using akamai/fastly for their cdn. I would think a company like valve which must do INSANE amounts of bandwidth per year would just roll their own. Could probably save a ton of money that way, but maybe they just don't want the overhead.

They finally put Octopath Traveler (1 & 2) on sale, and I've had that on my list forever, so I picked that up and started it recently. Seems great! Interesting mechanic with all the different storylines. I can get my mobile rpg fix with this while I wait patiently on Quartet.

So let's see, let me see if I can summarize this:

1) nonsensical collabs with luxury cars ... for some reason?
2) 13 new games in 5 years. hello shovelware!
3) aggressively pursuing ai slop.
4) aims to strengthen advertising.

I can only guess that Eleventh Hour got a huge offer from Krafton, but it REALLY makes me so sad they took it.

ehhhh, sorry @wolfgang but I disagree. This ABSOLUTELY is a direct copy/clone. I can look at some screenshots and videos and I don't think I could even tell you which game they came from. Even down to the stances the characters take during actions. It's blatant.

I don't think it'll matter in the end though, because yeah, Sony will win (as it should) but that won't mean shit in China so it'll keep selling there.

Planet of Lana is really good if you're into that genre. And there's a second one on the way!

But yeah, I'm sorry to hear this as well. SteamWorld Dig 2 is one of my all time fav games. I REALLY wish we could get a dig 3. This kind of merging doesn't make it sound likely.

Also, wtf Atari, how are they coming up with all this cash?

Hearing Stardock say that their past games were too simple and "pared down" is just scary .... !!! I have fond memories of Sins of a Solar Empire, but my god, those systems were DEEP. I can only imagine what the systems are like in their other games and if this is their "true vision" then yikes! I'll need to have a doctorate course lined up.
