Neither do I. If this somehow takes off and becomes widespread, I'll just block the entire service at a network level so I won't ever have to be bothered by it. Discord is just yet another closed private "social" service that will ipo soon and then be legally required by that ipo to enshittify itself to death.
I so wish an open source competitor that's not driven by capitalist greed would take its place, but oh well.

Steam Deck hits 18,000 games playable and verified

I absolutely adore my steam deck, and I think Valve is one of the best companies we have for us gamers. One bit of constructive criticism I would say is that Valve REALLY needs to work on this rating system. It's totally broken right now. So much so I can't even really trust it. There are games that 100% should not have verified ratings, but do. And it just keeps happening over and over again.
For instance there's a game which I think would be perfect for the Deck, title is "Skald". It's a retro party based rpg. It's verified for the deck, but the controller support is so terrible you can't even play it. the dpad buttons pull up the text based console for instance. Sometimes right trigger confirms and action, sometimes a button confirms an action. Add on top of that the developer has responded that they don't care and won't update it. It should have status "playable" but not verified.
Then there are all the various aaa games that keep getting verified status but crash constantly and get like 20fps. That should NOT be listed even as playable, let alone verified.
I really hope this year they spend some time on this labeling system.

This is absolutely in the top of my wishlist. I've had it installed in EA on steam forever, just so I can keep hitting that "update" button and watching their relentless pace of dev. Trese are some of my fav devs of all time. Can't wait for proper 1.0 release!!! Going to sink a ton of time into this.

I played it on my "normal" ultrawide (21:9 3440x1440) and it was totally fine, I guess this support is just for the extremes.
I thought the game was great up until a part (I think near the end) where I was in a section that had a REALLLLLY annoying puzzle that would constantly repeatedly instakill me and it was just trial and error trying to find out how not to die a million times in a row. I quit then. But had a blast up until that point.

I've never used mangohud (I just use the built in kde plasma perf monitor + steam's built in fps display) but does this mean mangohud was reporting the wrong fps values before this update?

This isn't my normal genre go-to, but with all the fanfare I might have to give it a try and go outside my comfort zone a bit. Might find something really new and nice!

Hate to see it. I'm hoping that after this disastrous past year we might start to see the pendulum swinging the other way. That said, I've never heard of this studio, and after checking their games, it's because they just release in genre's I'm not interested in. For fans of those genres, I hope the individual developers can find other good studios, but I bet it's a tough hiring environment out there right now.
Steam hits another all-time user record with over 40 million online

Yes for sure 2025 will be another record breaker!! haha.
I always use these numbers and combo the hwsurvey whenever games come out lacking proper ultrawide support, and the discussions always devolve to "nobody plays on uw, go whine somewhere else" garbage...
40 million active steam users.
roughly 3% on ultrawide res.
that equals 1.2 million active steam players who can't play your game properly. That adds up to a TON of lost sales / refunds. It's astonishing to me that any modern games still come out lacking support, but ... they do.
